I agree Guinness is a solid 6 or 7 out of ten pint.

This whole splitting the G nonsense can fvck off though, just enjoy your pint ffs.

Most people's beer choice is based on marketing and image which is why Guinness and Madri rule the roost atm. I would have been exactly the same when I was 18-25. Unfortunately, I have now become a boing old beer snob and I don't think there is any going back...

It's all the muppets who don't normally drink it who now do so because it's fashionable not because they like it.

It's also not an average price point anymore because of said people.

I maintain that neay all smaller brewery stouts I've ever had are better than Guinness.

I mean black heart by BD is even superior and they tend to make absolute dross.

Yeh that’s what I mean, it’s similarly priced to things like a single gin, a random craft beer, peroni or madri which are other drinks that have gone through the fashion cycle. It used to be nonces drinking ‘a small brew ipa darling’ out of colourful cans, now they’ve moved into Guinness, next it’ll be a random drink from some cesspit in France or Italy.
I’d say every stout I’ve had is nicer than Guinness but Guinness isn’t really a stout to me. It’s average and easy drinking, had 4 yday at lunch because it’s so inoffensive

The Guinness debate is boring. It’s a fine tasty pint. I don’t really compare it to other stouts or porters. I’d rather a Guinness than a random lager in a pub. However if I’m in a micro pub or craft bar I’m likely going to enjoy their offerings more.

Guinness is much creamier than other stouts. I like Titanic but prefer Guinness, years of drinking at Duffy’s prematch forces your hand.

I was thinking about the Quay the other day, I remember it being a pub but can’t recall what it was like. Was it chain operated, guessing so with the age of the building?

Was Everards operated and their flagship although they never really knew what to do with it

Listening to multiple people in the Bradgate order a Guinness and then decide to have a fake Spanish lager instead because the stout is Titanic Stout and not Guinness tells you everything about these people.

It's a far better pint but not cool.

Makes me want to vomit

Bet they'd queued instead of standing at the bar too?

I'm the opposite if Titanic plum porter is on draft, it has more flavour.

Guiness is a solid 7/10, 8/10 if you're drinking it in Dublin.

For me Madri is the most overrated lager going, put it in the San Miguel, Carlsberg range.

Plum Porter is so far removed from Guinness its apples and oranges, I find it incredibly sickly. Tasty if you’re just having the one imo.

San Miguel and Carlsberg are at least solid in their respective countries, Madri is meant to be made with Trent swill, it even smells rank. Shit beer but it did pave the way for  Cruzcampo’s launch and that’s decent.

I'm also partial to a Cruzcampo but it's not the Sevilla version, its brewed at Heineken in Manchester.

I've always enjoyed the different regional beers in Spain, easy to quaff with little aftertaste though the Spanish versions are considerably stronger than the UK imitations.

Yeah more or less every Euro lager brewed on license here is watered down to reduce the ABV. Even Carlsberg which is only 3.8% in Denmark anyway is 3.4% here lol

The Nape seems to be doing pretty well since it's refurb which is great. Hopefully it carries on because the area really needs a half decent pub.

It's been good for a match day when we're avoiding town and just want nearby street parking.

Sir Charles Napier? That used to be busy on football days when I was a teenager, I’m sure there was a huge scrap there one day. Assumed it was long shut down

That's the one. A huge scrap there wouldn't surprise me lol

I'm surprised it lasted as long as it has, so was surprised to when I first heard it was getting a refurb rather than closing for good. It's lost some of the old character it had, but it's definitely better for it overall.
