I don't think you have quite understood what I am trying to say.

Or maybe you're just thick and you want to willfully take it as a slight on the great man.

I'll try again.

Imagine having the brain of Stephen Hawking yet being unable to get your thoughts down quickly.  Imagine if he was able bodied and therefore able to write your thoughts down, to operate a keyboard properly but instead you have the ability to only twitch your eye.

Simply put, if he had been able bodied he would have been able to dedicate so much more time to his life's work.

If you want to take that as an insult to Professor Hawkins or as a slight against the disabled then knock yourself out.

...No please, knock yourself out.

Calling people thick? Yeah, right, keyboard warrior...

My take on your post is that suggesting Professor Hawking could have achieved more if he had not suffered from his condition is a staggeringly crass observation on several grounds:

- The inference might be drawn that disabled people are somehow incomplete or not fully actualised.

- The sheer chutzpah to suggest that what Professor Hawking achieved was maybe not enough in and of itself.

- Your having overlooked that some of his achievements may have actually resulted from his condition, ie that he was able to contemplate the infinite to a degree which might have evaded people not confined, as he was, to introspection.

By all means engage with my points.  Or maybe insult people on the internet you have never met.  Whatever....

What a shame.

Defied all the odds to reach 76 but I can't help wondering what he might have achieved if he was able bodied.  It must have been so frustrating and so time consuming to have to twitch his eye to move a cursor.

Yeh like he could have become England's record goalscorer or something.

Yes, it is those two points that irritated me.

You know full well that I was not implying any slight on Hawking's abilities and achievements but you have chosen to interpret it that I am and then to generalise that I am making a point about disabled people by extension.  And you call me crass!   The truth is you insulted me by attributing such points to me from your own deliberate misinterpretation.

You don't think that such a cruel condition might have hampered him?  Not in his ability as a scientist but in simple practical ways.  Fine.  Let's leave it there.

It's a damn good work - covers the matter well while keeping it easy to understand.

When did Isaac die

I think it was when he fell out of an apple tree and invented gravity.

That was a very stupid time to invent gravity, I thought he was smart.
