It's interesting that only Webbo and Kopfkino are cleanly in the right wing out of everyone so far. Mattp, Inno, Beechey, Izzy who all call themselves right wingers are actually all centrists and Strokesy is well into the left.

Last time I did it I was about where innovidil is. It might be partly mood and some of the questions I have no strong feeling on but have to answer anyway so it's possible I might have answered differently.

This poll makes no sense - how can Communism be Far Left, but its polar opposite (I.e. a 100% privatised Economy e.g. "pure" Neoliberalism/Libertarianism) be Centrist? But then a mixed State Capitalist Economy like Facist Italy is Far Right while 100% state controlled command Economies and Stateless anarchy are both Far-Left?

 

How are Socialists and Liberals who spent the entire 19th and early 20th Century bitterly opposed to each other with polar opposite ideals both now left of centre?

 

It seems to be you're doing the Left scale by Economic ideology (even though it's still conflicting and makes little sense) and the Right scale by Social ideology?

 

It's all silly anyway. Too many people decide they are left, centre or right wing before they're even an adult and then spend the rest of their lives supporting anything which anyone says belongs to that "wing" as if they were supporting a football team rather than taking each individual debating point on its own and forming their opinion on that issue based on its merit (not for one second claiming I don't do that or I'm above this btw, everyone does it to some extent. The trick is at least to always remain conscious of it at least and be prepared to accept you may be being led by some arbitrary decision you made when you were a teenager when you really probably hadn't heard all sides of the debate and shouldn't be too proud to hold biases against certain parties because they're supposedly not on your "side or whatever).

 

I still like those early American Revolution ideals of George Washington and co. not wanting factions or parties to form in their country for that exact reason as ideally parties and factions wouldn't exist in a responsible democratic state. Kinda ironic given the US has turned into a 2-party state where large swathes of people treat either party like a football team they will always support whatever (or because they could "never support the other side (even though party's opinions change all the time and I would hope most people's opinions change all the time too)).

 

Look at something like Eurosceptism for example- in the 1975 referendum it was considered an almost exclusively Labour and Left Wing trait but in the 2016 referendum it was considered almost exclusively a Conservative and Right Wing trait? I'm sure many of the Tories voting Out would never have voted for it in 1975 and vice versa many of the Labour voters voting for it in 1975 never would've voted for it in 2016 - yet many staunch voters would still claim they "would never vote for the other side".

 

Anyway, the more the years have gone by, the more I realise these kind of things make less and less sense.

Me. Pretty much where I expected. Posted the chart showing the UK parties in 2015, which shows the Tories practically off the scale and Labour still well to the right of centre. Although I would normally vote Labour, I voted Lib Dem in the General Election because it seemed to me in a seat where Labour would struggle to muster more than a couple of thousand votes, that a tactical vote for the Lib Dems was the best way of keeping out the Tories. However, I never saw myself as being near in values to Plaid Cymru!

In respect of politics, many of your takes differ to mine - (particularly in respect of the current Labour 'leadership'), but there's nothing unusual about that, it is by its very nature divisive. A few spring to mind, but dredge any up would achieve nothing barring derailing this thread and in all honesty and fairness to you, I'd probably find that I'm wrong and I agree with you in equal measure. 

 

Regarding the visible electromagnetic spectrum, (political one aside), your observations about UK sunsets in this thread however...
