I don't think we need a left back. Chilwell is still young and despite the flak he gets on here, is very capable at LB as well as decent going forward. Loads of time for him to develop.

Has Amartey turned invisible?

I like Amartey. I wish he’d show what he’s made of in either the right back or centre back position more often.

For me, I’d like to put him on the bench to cover either right back or centre back, and free up the space on the bench for a keeper, left back cover, a center mid and three attacking/creative players

He’s injured isn’t he but I really hope he bounces back. I wouldn’t say he’s a full on full back but he is comfortable there as well as other positions. Hope he’s not frozen out of the squad because he can be a really important player for us imo.

Chilwell will never be a Left back, he simply can not defend.

Amartey was incredibly unlucky to have got injured just as he was coming good and, with other injuries in the squad, would probably have had the opportunity to prove himself.

Does anyone know what anything about his condition?

We definitely need a quality left back to play in a flat back 4, if Puel goes with a back 5 that is when Chilwell could be used as he is great ‘going forward’ but quite poor as an out & out defender......

Defenders improve with age ........ I am a bit nervous about chilwell but so many full backs seem to be forward thinking first and defending second these days .......  the 2 holding midfielders compensate. Sorry , OT ......

You do realise he is already a left back?  For a Premier League club and England U21s?  Apart from that spot on though, good point well made.  :)

I think he meant he doesn’t do the job well as a left back; in as much as, his awful defending cost us a hatful of goals last season.

I see, thanks for clearing up.  I wonder why he didn't put it that way as the way he chose to word it just devalued his own point?  Weird.  X

Bit harsh.

Yes, it does sound harsh but I think it's true. If anything he is a good player with great potential, just not as a left back.

Just because he plays at left back doesn't mean he's any good at it, it just means we have a manager who is probably the last in the world to realise it. Oh and you apparently.:D
