People said the same about Drinkwater and I suppose were proved correct but he also may have backed himself to force his way into the Chelsea first team and rekindle his partnership with Kante when he played the best football of his career. He only had an ageing Fabregas and underwhelming Bakayoko to surpass. Staying at the majority of PL clubs might get you regular games but every season is groundhog season as you aim for 40pts initially and win nothing. It would never have been an option for us to try and get him here - always a top six side gojng to take him at that price and pay him a big s/o fee plus much more weekly than we would.
