Losing an interest in football

Recommended Posts

I promised myself I was going to cut back on the away games last season, ended up missing only one game

Promising myself the same thing this season. If it's an away game that doesn't have much riding on it in the league and on TV I won't go... we'll see if I keep that promise to myself.

The comment above is right, it's an addiction. But I'll be honest regular football is just dull as dishwater now. If it's not a "big game" (we can debate the definitions!) then I'm not interested in watching it tbh.

Actually, to be more specific I think I’m falling out of love with Leicester than football in general. Stories like Les Herbiers (?) the French third tier team making a cup final against PSG are great. Napoli’s title challenge was fun and Hamburg getting relegated was class so there’s always something.

Every week tgeres thousands of clubs clubs playing games in every country in the world all with their own unique histories and cultures, how could you not find that fascinating?

I'll still watch every game I possibly can on stream but have given up my season ticket. Coming down from the highs and having to watch the turgid stuff Puel put out last season kind of ended it for me.

Didn't really care about Mahrez leaving which is weird.

Absolutely loved the world cup though and happy to be an armchair watching all the games on sky now.

Maybe it's just getting older.

Hopefully not the same next season

How the feck can any serious fan lose interest in football!!!

Once you're hooked,  you're hooked for life. Is there any possible alternative to your own matchday routine? I think not.

End of thread

but a huge part of it for me was the dreaming, the turning up and singing for 90 minutes out of pure hope that something good would happen one day, and imagining the scenes and the feeling of what it’d be like if we actually did something successful instead of losing 0-1 to milwall or barnsley every week.

now weve done that and we’re back to losing 0-1 to newcastle or west ham it’s all just a bit... meh.

constantly looking back thinking i wish it was still that good, rather than looking forward thinking fu cking hell imagine if it could ever get that good.

still enjoy the match, still want us to win, still annoyed every saturday i have to work instead of having a drink and watching the match, but just a lot less bothered about the result, really.

It probably depends on how long you’ve been watching it for i guess

I always followed City, home and away, but for many years now have watched the Tigers far more, and usually get a season ticket.

Always wanted a season ticket

Never read this thread before. Quite interesting.

I've changed in so much as I tend to live for the moment far more.

Too many football fans seem to look ahead all the time. Where will we finish? Will Gray/Barnes/Madison be top class? Benkovic to replace Wes? Next manager! No wonder people lose interest as there's an element of missing the moment.

Watching us on a stream v  chelsea a few weeks back was perfection. Xmas on the horizon. Suffocating the death out of our opponent. A great goal. Riding our luck. A great win. That feeling at 4.50pm on such winning days is almost perfection. If only it could be bottled!

Those are the days that remind me I could NEVER lose interest x

Interesting that you watch on a stream rather than going. Try using half of your free time every other weekend to drive somewhere and watch us play like we did v Newport lol

A few things have lessened my enjoyment of it. First is obviously how ridiculously uncompetetive it is and how the big TV channels desperately try and convince us that one off games are more interesting than they really are. Secondly is how staggered all the games are now. Pretty much every time I check a news website over the weekend there's a game going on. It's overkill, and it lessens the impact of the result. This is exacerbated by the fact that we kicked this season off before the 2nd test had even started. Then there's the way a lot of televised football involves listening to pundits who take themselves so seriously.

As above, I still love going to the games, although I have to pick and chose which ones to go to (even my local non-league team is 13 quid). At least we have the title win, I can't imagine what it must be like being my age and supporting Ipswich, Forest, Wednesday or any other of the big provincial clubs stuck in second division, mid-table mediocrity.

I can’t stand the kick offs times nowadays

Quite.

I must admit I love the invention if the stream. It still feels all rather clandestine and that you've beat the system.

Sitting in the living room. Pop the kettle on when there's a break in play. Have a slash whenever. The scenes my living has seen for an away goal! Especially if undeserved. Love it.

I think my interest in football is as high as its ever been. I watch more football these days than I ever have and I've started doing a bit of coaching again but this time I'm signed up to start taking some badges.

But I am losing interest in Leicester at a point when the overarching strategy of the club is of far more interest than ever. I still force myself to watch every game but I usually have another game on at the same time. Whereas before I used to go every game and look forward to it, now when I have the opportunity to go away I either can't be arsed to take it or it feels more of a chore than something to look forward to. Part of that is that we're so dull and part of it is cos I hate our away ends. Tbh I find it much more enjoyable to go to Brentford games these days despite the fact they've turned to shit.

To be fair, if you've got a few years behind you, then you will also have title wins to live off.

Lost interest a bit this season as I hate the way we play under Puel. It’s the most frustrating and boring play and even though we’re doing okay results wise I’m less excited about games these days. Will still watch as I always do though.

If people have lost interest then move on. There's plenty more in life and many others will replace you at the football.

I was born in the mid eighties, hence my comment.
