The former assistant manager of Barnsley Football Club will appear in court charged with two counts of accepting a bribe.

City of London Police said Tommy Wright - who spent just under 18 months at Oakwell - was arrested as the result of a national newspaper investigation into football corruption.

The project - which focused on football agents thought to have facilitated bribes with individuals at clubs between May and September 2016 - was reviewed by detectives and led to a criminal inquiry that November.

Wright, 52, will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court on 24 September alongside two other men.

Giuseppe Pagliara, 62, of George Street, Manchester, and Dax Price, 47, of Susans Lane in Sittingbourne, Kent, have both been charged with two counts of paying and facilitating a bribe.

All three suspects were interviewed by officers on a voluntary basis between December 2016 and April 2017.

Scottish winger Wright played for a host of clubs before he became a coach, including Leeds United and Leicester City, and hung up his boots in 2000 following a spell at Doncaster Rovers.

Good luck to him what a crosser

Good luck to him. This is vile, if he's done it, he should rightly go to prison.

Not good luck to him at all, regardless of him being a good player for us or not - good luck to the truth coming out,

To hear this kind of thing goes on in the professional game in this country would be incredibly, incredibly depressing.

Is this the good Tommy Wright, or the meh one?

The "meh" one is currently manager of Darlington and lives in Countesthorpe, how about that for a commute?

Why would you wish him luck as an individual when you don't know if he is guilty though? I hope the truth comes and he is exposed and he is locked up and kicked out the game in disgrace if he is guilty. If he is innocent, I hope he isn't stigmatised with the reputation the accusations can bring.

Innocent until proven guilty means his starting point in a court of law prior to evidence being presented is innocent, it doesn't mean you should put the hope and wishing the luck of innocence over the hope and wishing the luck of justice.

bore off lad got better things to do

Well this is a heart breaking moment, my first ever footballing hero and he turns out to be the thing I most fear/detest about the modern era of the sport. IF he’s guilty I hope they make an example of him and throw away the key!

Yeah that's what we need to do with people who commit these sort of crimes.

Unfortunately our attitude to crime and punishment is still light years behind other countries, that's probably why we lock more people up than most of Europe and have some of the highest re-offending rates too.

I’m sure you can see from my picture who my favourite player was and what ever he has done as a person won’t change that. I judge him as a player and not on his character because let’s be honest, when it comes to it, most footballers are dicks!

Remember hearing him shouting 'you bold c**t' at the ref in front of the family stand when I was a kid. Didn't like to hear my heroes using language like that.

Was the ref dressed in one of those purple or green shirts? Or was he just being fearless in his duties?

Either way I agree that cvnt is too strong a word.

Assuming the poster meant bald, then maybe the expleted word is coot?
