Tbh there's no comparison. Kante and Mahrez were wanted by bigger clubs who will win trophies. 10 years of service is loyalty but, for me, it's different loyalty when you're trying to compare players such as Kante who were wanted by clubs that'll win something. If King had the opportunity to go to a side like Manchester United, don't doubt he would have gone (or at least looked at the opportunity closely, shall I say).

BUT now is not the time for all this. He's a hero for what he has contributed here and of course it should be respected.

Kante was different because of the release clause but Mahrez actively went on strike to force a move.

When we were in League 1 King actively avoided the call from Everton, a side that had just finished 5th in the Premier League.

Sorry, but King's loyalty and love for the club simply isn't in question.

Because James is a better player, he's also three years younger.

He's rarely fit. The longest run of games he's had for us is about 10 consecutive games in 4 years. That is diabolical. We were crap for most of those as well, I've never been impressed with him at this level. He could be any age and it wouldn't matter, the man is done. King is fine for 4th or 5th choice and will get an important goal or two along the way, James hasn't scored since Ken Bigley had a head.

I've great time for King and his role in our great era but he hasn't been a key player for us for a long time. I'm not talking about reaching the top 6 but even for mid table status he doesn't excite like maddison, vardy, N'Didi, etc.

A loan in January is how it will go I imagine.some team will need him in a promotion or relegation battle. Either that or be a latter day Bogarde.

Its tough on him today but most players at 19 could only dream about rising from league 1 and winning a Premier league medal along with a champions league quarter final appearance. King will realise he has been very fortunate when all is said and done.

Ric, King is crap. Every manager we've had since he was here has bought umpteen other midfielders for a reason. James will also most probably get bombed out, but the manager clearly thinks he's a better fit for the two defensive midfielders we currently play, over a man who last made a tackle in league one.

Correct me if I'm wrong but I think Everton came in for him in the championship a couple of years after we won league one

I don’t believe there is any evidence of this at all

It’s funny players are criticised for not being loyal and then they’re criticised for not showing any ambition. King clearly loves it here, is it actually showing ambition if he was to move to a championship club? He’s won a league title so starting every week for Birmingham City isn’t going to rank up there on a list of career highs

No, i'm asking you to put forward your argument that Andy King is a mercenary. Keep up.

Already done. Your turn.

No your argument was that he earns money. Like every other professional footballer.

I'm asking you to put forward a proper case, it seems like you're struggling to do so.

I actually think king has been treated really badly by the club over the last 5 years or so. He truly had the potential to be a top class midfielder but harshly was not given enough minutes just as he was coming into his prime years. Truly sad.

I agree..but more indirectly...A few think it's amusing...,but with the exception of Swansea &Everton games,in the title year...he seemed

Always selected,to play backfoot defensive midfield...

To me his best games over the years was as the attacking midfielder...The selection management relevant to King was poor...

He was damn good moving forward, the last 2 years, after being wrongly selected for wrong duties,he just should of moved on....

Shame really...

Appreciate your concern, but my grip is fine thanks.

Were you not disappointed when Kante and Mahrez, both great players, left? Bet you were in floods of tears when Ulloa ****ed off and Simpson was dropped.

King is not loyal, King is a mercenary who has been happy to earn tens of thousands of pounds every week for years without playing.

But yes, you're right, I forgot the rules. No negative comments allowed about players who've been here for years.

Yet so see anything from you that tells me I'm wrong. It seems like you're struggling to do so.

All you've churned out is the "show some respect" line and called me an idiot, the classic signs that you don't have an actual argument. So, as I'm in the habit of repeating things with you, your turn.

I'm not sure how you can call a man that has made nearly 400 appearances for the club a mercenary.

He's clearly the total opposite, only an idiot would call him one.

How many starts has he made in the past five years? He is not justifying that wage pal. If you think he should still be earning £40k p/w based on what he achieved before then, then thank heavens you don't run our club. If Andy King had anything about him, he'd have left years ago to actually play football. It is hardly a sudden shock that he isn't starting regularly, it's been five years mate.

He's made 102 appearances since we were promoted. 60 odd more games than Matty James.

Lets pack the "he never plays" idea away, it's complete bollocks.

Sadly this year seems like the right time for King to go. The bloke is a legend and one of my favourite ever players. He gave everything to the club and by all accounts is a great bloke. Scored a shitload of goals for us, some great and some extremely important. Love the guy. Hope he’s able to find a new club as soon as possible

I'm not saying he's any good but he's a damn sight more reliable than James. That 4 year deal last summer was a disgrace. He's been robbing a living for years.

He's had about 4 serious injuries now. Baffling how he got that new deal last summer, it's borderline fraud.

Please see my post above. He made more tackles than James last season, although to be fair one of them is playing with one leg at times the poor man.
