I actually think VAR wouldn't help at all here. It's not like the ref didn't see it, it's just a refusal to give decisions against the "big" teams. Can't see how VAR would fix that problem.

In the Spur of the moment and split second though isn't it. He took the easy option. Given a moment to think he'd probably realise he can't make a decision based on the fact it's Arsenal at the emirates and he's already booked the player in question.

This is another good thing about VAR it actually gives the referees time on the very biggest and match deciding decisions. Some still get it wrong fair enough but technology can only do so much.

It really doesn’t.

This has the best view I’ve found second replay clearly hits Wilf and hand bounces towards ball:

Also note Wilf barely appeals as he knows what happened.

The act his hand is up there makes it hand ball. It’s a penalty all day every day. One of ours does that in the box and he’s getting crucified on here by everyone. It’s handball. You can dress it as you like it still doesn’t change it.

Thanks for the clip, but disagree about his arm being in an unnatural position, everyone who jumps for the ball jumps with their arms up and brings them down as they jump. Both Holding’s arms go up as he jumps his left arm starts to come down the same time as his right Wilf has his left arm on Holding’s shoulder for leverage in doing so he blocks him from bringing his arm down and causes Holding’s arm to ricochet off his head and towards the ball.

Holding does not move his arm to the ball, why would he the ball is going straight to his head?

Keven Keegan, is that you? X

I still can't decide. Does handball have to be deliberate to be a penalty? I'm not 100% on the rules, if it has to be deliberate, there's no way based on the video evidence that you can claim it was done on purpose.

If it's just that the ball strikes a hand then it's a penalty.

Rarely disagree with a word you say Captain, but this is either handball or a foul on Ndidi who would otherwise head the ball cleanly. There is nothing to redeem the ref here...

Now you’ve opened up a can of worms ........................

yes, handball is suppose to be deliberate

no, the law is not enforced correctly but why we should be the club that only has it enforced according to the rules is a mystery ......

It's all about the question, is the hand in an unnatural position, that determines whether or not it's deemed as accidental, and i say his hand being at least a foot above his head is pretty unnatural, whether he's jumping or not.

There appears to be uncertainty what the laws say on handball, so this may be helpful (law 12):

https://resources.fifa.com/image/upload/laws-of-the-game-2018-19.pdf?cloudid=khhloe2xoigyna8juxw3

An attempt to head the ball with hands raised must be deliberate, so this should have been a penalty. Probably not another booking as no clear goal scoring opportunity

So he made deliberate attempt to head the ball with his hand above his head meaning it would strike his hand before his head and not his head instead of his hand. Handball.

Dont get the whole 'Wilf headed Holding'shand against the ball so no pen.' If his hand isnt there then Wilf wins the header so therefore Holding is interfering with play therefore foul therefore penalty.

If Wilf isn’t there it doesn’t hit his hand.

Anybody who has played football knows that was deliberate handball. All defenders I ever played with / against never ever hand balled accidentally.

The referee bottled it, end of.

True but then its a matter of Holding interfering with play as his arm is in a completely unnatural position.

If Wilf isn’t there it misses him altogether.

He only jumps because Wilf is there; if the contact is as significant as you say, it’s certainly enough for him to be sent off for striking Wilf in the head.

If Wilf isn't there we're playing with ten men.

If all the Leicester team aren't there then Arsenal win 3-0.
