Stan Posted 15 January 2019 Posted 15 January 2019 We have some right miserable ****s for fans (like every other club in the country, I suppose). How on earth do they trundle through life?

I was actually looking at past January signings. 10 years ago on Thursday Tom Cleverley arrived on loan as we prepared to go to Yeovil and panicked about the potential of Mark Davies being recalled by Wolves. You go back and tell the fans then that within a decade they'd be whinging about the football not being exciting enough with their team comfortably midtable in the prem and I expect they'd look at you like you were nuts.

Most will have been supporting Man Utd or someone.

I know there are rules that govern this type of thing but if they're there on merit and we don't take the p** too much then surely now is a better time than ever. Now we're out of all cup competitions and we have little to play for, surely unlocking a gem that might be staring us in right in the face could save us millions in the summer. It might also get the fans excited and build a more supportive atmosphere at home games again. I think to be successful under Puel doesn't always come from pure talent it seems, it's more an understanding of his system, philosophy and being young and malleable that could be the key. We will be extremely lucky to hit 45 at this rate and in any case, he had the opportunity to blood some of the development squad against Newport but chose to play the likes of King and James ( now that was taking the p*ss ) we have nothing to play for and that is down to Puel 100%.

I rarely made it up to the stands for the second half of Levein and Kelly’s tenure. It was just too much to bare. I’d stand in the concourse and just keep pushing down the flat lager watching it on one of those tiny monitors wondering if I drank non stop if I’d be as pissed as Levein when he submitted the team sheet an hour before kick off.

Beating Man City, Chelsea then losing to Newport Cardiff and Southampton among others kind of leaves me in a mindset of anything could happen and that includes a relegation scrap. Nothing about Puel and his brand of management will surprise me anymore.
gerrytaggart Posted 16 January 2019 Posted 16 January 2019 Its as if half the forum dont realise we are 8th with 31 points after 22 games!! There is plenty of stuff to be negative about in every day life....Leicester City being comfortably top half in the prem is not one if them. We may not have the killer instinct of a couple of seasons ago right now but Puel is building something here. I really hope he is given the necessary time for the fruits of his labour to ripen.

Lambert09 Posted 16 January 2019 Posted 16 January 2019 As is the FT way, this topic is full of nitpicking about points and not a single comment about what the OP's question was about. So i'll try to get it back on track....The idea of testing youth when we are secure would be good for the reasons youve stated and perhaps would serve us greater in the long run but as a manager your career at a club is short and you are often remembered by statistics and its your neck on the line if results go wrong. It can also upset the squad, dropping players on the way out makes sense but anyone you want to start the next season with could cause fractures. Who exactly would you be aiming to blood in? The cb's are miles off, they will have to serve time on a loan to get near the squad as next year we have 2 young players in CS and FB who are going to be ahead of them already. As well as JE and hopefully HM. The 2 most promising options are now in the squad (HC & HB) we already have young full backs and other young stars in attack so the only real option is a Striker and seeing as the Under 23's dont have anyone who is consistently bagging goals theres not really an option. Basically, we are already the youngest team in the league giving plenty of young 20's a run out in the first team, I think thats the least of our problems right now. We should be persevering with this young squad, improving them so that when next season comes we may be in a position to challenge for some silverware and break the top 7

Would you describe the football and tactics against Man City at home in both the league and the EFL Cup as "crap"? Or the movement, possession and pressing at Chelsea as "crap"? I don't even think that they were necessarily "crap" against Southampton. Some substandard performances yes, and two shitty mistakes at the back. It was always going to be challenging against ten men sitting back, just as it was against West Ham, only on this occasion the Saints had a two goal buffer. The end product was lacking...the build up. less so.
