Narh I'm not on the wind up it just is completely meaningless.

These X person is leaving Y club messages have become completely routine and meaningless. It's not a dig at Puel, it's just a dig at really bland, generic PR.

Everyone is really honored and privileged to have been here and is now a fan for life etc.

It's the Good Bunch of Lads of leaving clichés.

I didn't mean it like that - I took the 'Generic football statement' in place of a reply, and thought I'd further the 'genericness' ;)  I guess it's different if you're used to this sort of thing on places like imgur?  (I'm just sad no-one carried it on further :P;) )

I think @Finnegan is probably spot on. It’s all PR and the same statement could be written for just about any outgoing manager.

Wouldn’t it be so refreshing to read a statement such as this which REALLY stated how he probably felt.

Along the lines of:

’To be perfectly honest I’m utterly fooked off with being sacked from ANOTHER job without the ‘fans’ giving me time to see it through and basically causing the owners to pull the plug because the atmosphere inside the ground had become so toxic. Frankly, bollox to the lot of you because of your insensitivitee’

‘Meh’

Or words to that effect.

Puel achieved good things at the club and he had a longer list of things that didn't work out. He came across a genial and pleasant man and I don't think his integrity and character can be called into question. His tenure here might not have worked out and - generic leaving statement or not - I wish him all the best for the future.

Given the pretty basic command of English he displayed with mind-numbing regularity I'd doubt these are his actual words. At best he would have got someone to translate his thoughts into this statement.

And there lies the problem. If he'd ever taken the trouble to express himself adequately in the language ( and he's been long enough in the country) he might have bought more time to achieve what he was after, or at least a more sympathetic understanding.

Language is important.

Yes his English was poor, but it took Pochettino years before he started speaking English in his interviews. And as for players, Aguero still can barely speak English and he's been in this country for absolutely ages.

I genuinely think Puel wrote this himself and it came from the heart. Despite his ultimate failings, he didn't have us anywhere near the relegation zone (unlike Shakespeare and Claudio, who left us deep in the mire) and Puel actually developed youngsters like Chilwell and Barnes, as well as bringing through Maddison and giving plenty of chances to Gray. He wasn't a complete disaster and who knows what will happen next - if we appoint the wrong manager next we could go the way of Southampton, Stoke, Swansea etc.

Y’all were right.  Bad did eventually go to worse.  But I don’t think many of you allowed yourselves to take the measure of this man.

You underrated the size and brass content of his clockweights.  Claude Puel swung the axe, rang the changes, benched the bitchers, and took the consequences.  He held the fort with dignity when the unthinkable happened -- while the likes of Mourinho and Sarri got all the attention for pathetic versions of sabotage and capitulation.

I told y’all he wouldn’t go down playing a 2-man Mendidi midfield and he sure as hell didn’t.  He flamed out in a 27-shot, 1-4 horror show of anti-glory, which at least allowed the axe to fall cleanly.

A man’s exit.  With an honorable man’s dignified statement after.  I respect that ol’ Renard Gris.

Ok - but Pochettino is much more fluent than Claude in English now. He expresses himself pretty well to be fair.

Claude's been here 3 years - plenty of time to get your head round a language  - if you want to. His continuing difficulty with English (still needing an occasional interpreter in interviews) suggests an inflexible attitude (not rare in France, in my experience) and is, frankly, embarrassing.

The statement just doesn't ring true. It may be his sentiments - sure as hell ain't his words!

No, he wasn't a complete disaster, but he could have been so much better if he'd taken the trouble to express himself better - or maybe he just didn't have that much to say...

Really wish he'd managed to get one more "qualiteee and intensiteee" into it somehow for old times sake.

Yawn.
