I suppose you could say they were

A penalty shoot out away from not winning the league cup, one Liverpool win from not winning the league and if VAR had been in place would have lost at Swansea in the FA Cup...

Yeah good points. But I guess it's the mark of champions when they come out on the right side of those narrow margins.

I was thinking about this yesterday. For Man City's success over the past decade, we could easily have created an alternate history.

Going right back to their FA Cup win in 2011 - their first trophy in 35 years. Anyone remember the third round tie at the then Walkers Stadium? The story could have been over from the start, we absolutely outplayed them. But weren't clinical enough in front of goal, and they won the subsequent replay.

Breaking that trophy drought with the FA cup no doubt paved the way for them to win their first league title the following season.

We played them in the league cup quarter final in 2013. Albeit we got battered this time lol but it turned out to be Manuel Pellegrini's first trophy at the club. Another milestone.

Rolling forward to 2016, we had them again in a league cup quarter final. Should have gone through that night! But penalty heartbreak ensured Pep's first season didn't go trophyless.

A hattrick of league cup quarter finals in 2018, we were the better team again! Better penalties and there wouldn't have been a treble this season.

And finally the Vincent Kompany wondergoal at the Etihad! Had we held out or Iheanacho brought his shooting boots, Liverpool would have been champions.

I'm sure other clubs can probably stake their claim too but an interesting pattern where fine margins could have made a big difference..

Man City have had the rub of the green all season mate, Kompanys goal, penalties vs us in the cup, non penalty and an offside goal to knock out Swanseain the fa cup. It's been their year but I doubt that kind of luck will continue.

Not really. 100 points in a season is a ridiculous achievement but I see why Leicester fans would think this way

Because if you work out how much every point cost, there's probably not been a champion is an economical as us since footballers cost about ten bob.

I meant the sentimentality of it all and the unexpectedness.

I know Liverpool pushed them close, but it feels like it's run-of-the-mill for Man City to win.

Don't think anyone would ever do 100 points in 1 season again.

Yeah they will. All it takes is everyone else to be crap.

Or is that the big clubs get favoured by the referees?

Do you think we'd have got those decisions?

I don't think so. They have a job to do at the end of the day and I think there's too much riding on these games for them to be favouring one team over another even if it may look that way to a biased TV audience.

We had some decisions go our way when we won the league. I'm sure if you look back at any title win you could find vital if not slightly controversial decisions which had a major impact on the end result.

Don’t agree that Kompanys goal was getting the rub of the green if you’re talking about the one against us. It was intended and a fantastic effort.

Agree. Uncharacteristic of the player?. Yes. Low percentage? Yes. A little bit in desperatIon? Probably. Lucky? No.

He's desperate?, but he knows he will place it in the top corner, could get the golden boot with that ability, low percentage would convey some fortune for it happen..not denying it was a fantastic effort - it was a class goal, but unless you drill it in the top corner more often then you miss, then it is indeed lucky. We all know that he's missing that 99 times in a row:chant:

Low percentage does not equal lucky.

He did exactly what he was intending to do, however unlikely it may have seemed when he lined it up.

I agree that he intended to shoot, and hopefully work the keeper at best

True.  I believe they won the league twice pre 2008 and won the FA cup four times.

It makes us look daft when some of us try to argue we were as big as Man City pre 2008 and similarly when some believe we are as big as Everton.

We are a growing club, but lets not make ourselves look silly.

Absolutely.

Just don't get this obsession to brand ourselves as a 'big' club, or 'as big as' or 'bigger than...'

It smacks of inadequacy and delusion. Of not being comfortable with who we are.

Obviously, cities like Manchester and Liverpool are much bigger than Leicester, and equally obviously their clubs are followed by far more people.

This does not detract from our achievements - it amplifies them.

Wanting to be thought of as something you're not is never a good idea - in football or anything else.

Sky all over Maguire to Man City but his stats didn't look that great. as I suspected.Easy on the eye

Maybe Mahrez and 40 mill would seal the deal.

Riyad played great on Saturday and still got hooked off for he eventual man of the match

I don't disagree, Mahrez turned the Watford defence inside out but he didn't supply the final ball to score a goal. And that was the difference between him and the MoM, wonderful substitution.
