The likes of Susan Whelan do a very good job. I'm not happy with how we've done business here but I think it's a lack of ethics here not a lack of competence. It's just noticeable that we often seem to make poor decisions - from the Adrien Silva debacle to ignoring fans representations...things like the Banks statue, talking about safe standing, use of non-official banners etc etc...the list goes on. i just get the feeling there's a deep-seated inflexibility there which I find frustrating.

The only person wrong in this is the Wednesday owner. He refused a very good offer then let the kid rot for twelve months. Why do you think he refused the highest offer ever given to an academy player ? Er let me think !!!!!

Pwilky58 Posted 8 July 2019 Posted 8 July 2019 Spent £40 for Tielemans , saved £2m on Hirst through a loophole I just don’t understand the logic . George Hirst played at Sheffield Wednesday, was coached and developed throughout his youth the club deserved some return any decent fan can see this regardless .

Can't believe how many posters here are now saying it's their own fault for being greedy. Are thry not allowed to hold our for the fee they though he was worth? If they thought he was worth more then we bid are they not within their rights to turn down the bid if they think its low? Have we never turned down bids from clubs from bigger clubs fir our players when we think the bids are too low? Think Mahrez and Maguire and others. Just because we are a bigger club don't mean we can bully smaller clubs into selling to us. Total double standards from many here. Fair play to Wednesday for sticking by their guns and not being bullied. The fact we have. It broken any rules does not mean that we have bent thrm well and truly and it don't sit right in my opinion. I Thought we were better then that, I don't want us turning out like the rest of the money grabbing big fish. It was not that long ago we were in the same pond as Wednesday.

Yes they turned it down... but the story doesn’t really stop there does it. They valued the player so highly they decided to never play him again in any sort of football in an attempt to kill his career for not signing a new contract! Bravo Wednesday. I can’t help but think if they had turned it down, but actually treated him in a reasonable fashion things would have taken their natural course.... rather than the player and his dad wanting to get one over on them. It stinks what we did, but I think they brought it on themselves somewhat with their actions.
brucey Posted 8 July 2019 Posted 8 July 2019 Didn’t realise he was this tall. 191 cm, only 3 cm less than the slab. Probably suits Beaglehole

There’s more to this than we all know , his Dad walked out of his academy job then George turned down the highest contract ever offered to an academy player . He wasn't ready for first team action and still isn’t imo , but he was wanting first team wages . What Chansiri did in banning him from playing was in my eyes baffling and could only do damage to both player and club .

We offered them generous compensation, they got greedy and pissed us about, and then tried to derail his career by freezing him out of matches for a year. Can't say they dont deserve to get mugged off. It wasn’t a year and Everton offered £2 but got turned down . Sending him to the feeder club to save paying Wednesday anything may well have been the only way but at the end of the day mate I can assure you it was money that swayed him .

From what i understand, we made decent offers to Wednesday for him, a player they were not even utilising due to a falling out. Not our fault they lost him for nothing after his contract ran out. No rules against it so we have done nothing wrong. How much did it cost to “ buy “ him from Leuven I wonder ?

Pwilky58 Posted 9 July 2019 Posted 9 July 2019 Has it occurred to anyone that the reason he got banned from playing was because Wednesday knew of the offer he accepted . Why play him and keep another striker out when he was leaving anyway . Bizarrely he was allowed to play the last month or so before his departure .
TheSomersetFox Posted 9 July 2019 Posted 9 July 2019 If Man City had pinched Chilwell or whoever off us like this I can’t say i’d be too pleased. Can’t say I know much at all about what really went on but by most accounts it seems we’ve been a bit snide. Dodgy one, guess that’s football these days but you don’t like to see it, even if it’s been to our benefit Hope the lad can put all the rubbish behind him and do well here
