Hirst wanted out, Wedneaday refused to let him go and benched him in spite for six months, eventually resulting him joining Leuven. And his dad, once a prominent member of Wednesday's staff, has severed links with Wednesday? Have I got that right? Pretty much, we tried to buy him but Wednesday turned down 2 offers from us and in the end we got Leuven to have him for free and we knew what was to come. Don't mess with the dilly dilly.
mancunianfox Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 To be honest I'm a little disappointed in the club over this. A loophole that should certainly be closed as it could really impact lower league clubs if it it became the norm. Lets not forget that it isn't that long since we had to sell youth players to pay the wages and keep the club going.

I agree but we did try and offer Sheff Wednesday upwards of a £1m for him I think and they turned it down saying they'd get more from a tribunal, currently we have broken no laws but it is a little unsavoury.
ealingfox Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 Nothing wrong with it for me. We offered them generous compensation, they got greedy and pissed us about, and then tried to derail his career by freezing him out of matches for a year. Can't say they dont deserve to get mugged off.

Can't say they dont deserve to get mugged off. Couldn't agree more. From what i understand, we made decent offers to Wednesday for him, a player they were not even utilising due to a falling out. Not our fault they lost him for nothing after his contract ran out. No rules against it so we have done nothing wrong.
Foxxed Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 Tbh my sympathies don't run so deep since they tried to sabotage his career by benching him for six months after a falling out. But we should have bought him when his contact ran out and paid whatever the tribunal fee would be.
ealingfox Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 Maybe this will make this them and all the other small-time, irrelevant clubs think twice about messing around when the big dogs come knocking

LCFC FOX Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 I doubt he’s going to be much more than a development striker for a few seasons. If he was 16-18 then great but at 20 years old I think he’ll just be another Ryan Loft/ Jacob Blyth type of signing

ALC Fox Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 He was very highly rated before the move to Leuven. After being frozen out by Sheff Weds and all the stress that situation would've brought, plus a move to an unfamiliar league in an underperforming team in a new country at 19 years old, I'm reserving judgement until he's been here for a year or two and settled back in. He could still realise that original potential.

moore_94 Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 Notice it was a Leicester fan that kicked it all off on their forum, very enjoyable reading, should’ve just taken the £2m when we offered it. https://www.owlstalk.co.uk/forums/topic/283145-george-hirst/

moore_94 Posted 5 July 2019 Posted 5 July 2019 They can’t get really have a go at us for bending the rules when they have bent the rules as well Sheff Wed were struggling to meet FFP, so sold their ground to their owner who has then leased it back the the club, just as dodgy

What he said! this is the kind of behaviour that would really upset me if someone did it to Leicester so I can take now pleasure in us doing it to another club.
