Yes, they're precisely the same thing. All those people I shot in Dubai, it was the highlight of my trip

Work on your comparisons, buddy, and come back when you've got a better one :)

By the way, did I mention I had a FANTASTIC time on my holiday? It was a brilliant week.

On my last trip one person was pickpocketed and a woman had her handbag snatched by a lad on a scooter ..  bout ripped her arm off and the cops weren’t interested and made out they couldn’t speak English ...   they could.

Following on from a post in the Unpopular Opinions Thread, I assume we all have a couple of these places where you've either been to and hated, or have no desire of going to, because it's just not your cup of tea/you don't get the 'hype'.

I'd put forward the following:-

1. Miami - Went a few years ago and did not enjoy it all. Head down the wrong street and it seemed to be rough as hell, and the front is just full of people who look like second division footballers. I don't understand why it's overly cited as being a beautiful and exciting place, just not my jam.

2. Las Vegas - I visited on the same trip as Miami and would happily never go back. It's certainly different, but I just found it a little tacky. The casinos are pretty cool from the outside, but effectively identical on the inside. Highlight of the trip was walking into Dirk Kuyt and seeing Mike Tyson through a window. I get that if you're a gambler then it must be fantastic, but again just not my cup of tea.

3. Dubai - This is one where I've never been to and have no desire whatsoever to go. Just everything about it is my idea of hell, over commercialised, capitalist, trendy, animal rights abusing crap. I'm sure there are parts that are stunning - but I don't think I'll ever make the trip.

Dubai we've been to a number of times now, primarily because it's a stop over point between Zambia and wherever else. We really like it. Loads of places to eat, and take the kids to, a really family friendly place.

I've never been to Miami, but would do Las Vegas when my two biotech stocks rocket!!!

Rome - constantly having to tell people to stop flogging me stuff is a huge pain in the arse. Throw in that the travel from Ryanair's cheap airport option is horrid and the area around the Central Station looks like Beirut. It completely overweighed the positives.

Waiting on two job offers for Rome... my wife likens it to Baltimore... which doesn't fill me with confidence lol

Amsterdam, above ground sewer filled with rude people. Include the easily accessible drugs and porn and its just a dodgy part of any town on a saturday night

I worked for a Dutch company and have visited many times. It's a great city. It's a shame so many of us British trash it.

Madrid is a cracking city but I don’t think you can compare it to them three.

i’ve been 4 times through work/football/pleasure and really enjoyed it.

I can’t say I have got a burning desire to go to Dubai if I’m honest, pretty sure they would want to chop my cock off which is a bit of a downside.

India is somewhere I will probably go to at some point but from what I see/ hear of places like Mumbai that really puts me off.

I've been to Madrid once. It was OK. Been all over India, Tamil Nadu (I landed in Chennai and went down to Salem), Meghalaya, Delhi... don't take the trains... they are god shit awful... but the scenery and the people are amazing. Especially visit Meghalaya the culture is unique in India.

Hideous place. I've had the misfortune to have to spend a considerable amount of time their with my work. Vacuous, culturally and moralely bereft. Clean though (only because you wont see the migrant workers and how they live.. Also not Singapore clean!), some nice hotels and shops. That's kind of it.

Singapore clean is something else though!! And they have humidity which helps with the dust.

Singapore is fantastic though, and you do feel you can go out later and 'easier' by yourself. Mind you, I've only ever been to Dubai with my wife and kids... so I am not sure if it is Dubai holding me back or...

On the Dubai theme of places some people have no intention of going as it doesnt appeal, I dont think I'd be too fussed on Thailand or Bali to be honest, just seems full of older British and Irish chavs from what I've seen in the media / people I know who have been.

I used to go to Cambodia a lot for work (not Thailand or Bali)... but I was surprised by home many older washed up looking British guys I'd see there in the bars. They were always, always, wearing Chelsea shirts.

Fantastic place to work though, my wife and I would work in Cambodia in a heartbeat. Amazing people, fantastic food, and so much potential.

I've only been to Florida once (maybe twice) but it was to visit the wife's family in Lakeland, between Orlando and Tampa. You can keep that part of the USA thanks. Not for me. Disney doesn't do it either, I went to Euro Disney once as a teen and hated my parents since.

I've been to Mexico a few times, we avoided Cancun and went to Playa del Carmen, which was much more relaxed.

In Europe, they are not a destination... but don't go to Kosovo. Ukraine wasn't bad. Oslo is amazing. If I could get work there, and afford to live there, I would. Same with Bregen. Norway is just pretty cool. Is Frankfurt a destination? I went for work, wouldn't go on holiday. Anywhere in the Netherlands is great, they have decent beaches too. I was quite surprised.

Other than Florida and maybe Vegas, I am not seeing many places that I wouldn't go to and find something to enjoy. But after living in the US for 7 years, I got pretty fedup with it. While I've lived a lot longer in Africa and enjoyed so much of the variety, and while it's a difficult place to live (and expensive to visit) as a 'destination' I can't fault most places. Clearly, northern Nigerian isn't a destination... and while it's fine to visit, it's not the place to take the kids and wife to hang out.

I liked Kosovo. Did some walking in the mountains, went to a couple of very beautiful medieval Serbian monasteries. The towns are a bit messy but generally I thought it was a very interesting place.
