Well done bud that’s fantastic and yes the headwind at 9 miles was awful, energy zapping and slowest mile of the race by a long way

Congrats on your brilliant time too, a fair bit quicker than me! The first mile was my slowest, getting out of the bottleneck bit straight after the start line where the big puddle was whacked approx 2 mins onto my time I reckon >_<

Yes that start was a bit strange and probably the only bit that let the course down re the bottle neck. Other than that it seemed a well run course and the marshalls were generally good etc

Sent my request to join.

Need some extra motivation such as this. Weather has massively deterred me so far this year so I'm hoping to put those excuses to bed.

Good to have you on board. I wouldn't worry too much about missing runs in this weather - its tested the resolve of even the toughest of runners (read: nutters) lately. I've been on 6 runs a week for marathon training and I genuinely cant wait till its done so I dont have to go out in the rain/wind/sleet/hail anymore; of course, thats when the weather is going to turn and be lovely again knowing my luck lol

Feck it - I’m in (possibly)!

Need some decent running shoes, though - any suggestions?

Depends what suits you buddy and what sort of cash you want to spend

Brooks are a great brand (expensive but very good) but it is best for you to go into a running shop and try some on as different brands suit different people etc etc

Yeah - just realised it was a bit of a stupid question!

I‘ll pop into a specialist shop and see what they say 👍

Had the day off today and the sun is shining so just went out. Didn't really have a distance in mind but followed a route that I thought would get me close to 10k. Ended up at 8.5km with some horrible elevation. I applaud you for getting the distance in in the horrible weather!

I used Running fox in Loughborough for my first pair, had my gate evaluated on their treadmill, then bought some shoes from them. You can just pay for the evaluation and then go elsewhere. I used sportshoes.com for my second pair. If you know someone who has health insurance through Vitality you can get 50% off once a year at a runners need web site.

Thanks - I’m with Vitality and have seen the Runners Need discount. Will check it out.

Sent my request to join.. Off to Paris for the half marathon this weekend, it won't be a fast one but this group might help motivate afterwards. Great idea.

You’re all in…. Welcome along….

Ran yesterday and was going to go out at lunch, but, work got in the way…. Will be out tomorrow!  I don’t mind running when it’s chilly…. One of my most memorable runs was in -13 with a light layer of compacted snow (like running on a carpet!). I actually broke my old age 10km PB!

Great stuff. Some of you nutters run crazy distances!

I feel like a bit of a noddy entering all my treadmill runs manually while you lot all use the app

Cheers @Wolfox! Some great efforts from everyone out there :)

The heavy mileage has just about caught up with me now though - had a niggle with my ITBand for a while but now my achilles has joined in - think I've been overcompensating for one injury and its caused another. Still got out there, but 20+miles planned for over the weekend got cut down to less than 5 total. Ah well, on the mend now and keeping it light(ish) for a few days. This marathon training is hard work. That being said, I wouldn't be surprised if Manchester doesn't even go ahead at this rate, with so many other events getting cancelled. Might have to delay my marathon debut (yet again) until later in the year if so...

Curse of joining an FT running club. Run 1 since joining, OK but horrific weather. Run 2, knee problems (first time in a long time). After that, struck down with a virus for almost a week.

Hopefully back to it tomorrow!

It happens…. I had a sniffle and tried to run too soon…. Once or twice a year I tweak my lower back…. You just need to know when to stop!

i’m sure you’ll be up and running soon!
