Leicester City remain among the most financially powerful football clubs in the world, according to a new report.

The annual Soccerex Football Finance 100 list has the Foxes at number 21.

That is two places down on last year but still in impressive company.

They are the seventh highest-ranked English club, behind the Premier League's "big six" of Manchester City, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester United.

Overall, Paris Saint-Germain have overtaken Man City at the top of the table.

Bayern Munich are third, with Spurs fourth and Real Madrid fifth.

Hoffenheim and Los Angeles FC are both new entries into the top 20.

The list is calculated on a number of factors, including playing assets, tangible assets, cash in the bank, owner potential investment and net debt.

The study was conducted in collaboration with recognised specialists in sports financial valuations, plus sources such as UEFA, Financial Times, Bloomberg, Yahoo Finance, Forbes, Transfermarkt and Hoovers.

“Congratulations to Paris Saint-Germain and all the clubs that made the top 100," said Soccerex managing director Philip Gegan.

"This year’s report paints a positive picture of football’s collective financial health, but it also highlights the growing imbalance between the power of Europe’s modern elite, with some of the game’s heritage brands in danger of being left behind.

"The report shows that, despite Europe’s dominance, football is very much a global game with investment from football’s emerging markets very much underpinning its continued growth.”

Leverkusen and Hoffenheim aren't more financially powerful than most PL clubs. Their playing assets might be worth a bit more but Newcastle bought Joelinton for big money and Newcastle have considerably worse prospects. Debt is probably weighted too much in the study, United and Barca have loads but it doesn't mean they're not much more powerful. Arsenal's ranking is a joke too, they're not far off being f ucked financially - SwissRamble on twitter scrutinised their finances fairly recently and they make grim (wonderful) reading.

Even we're not in the best of health financially, at least in the immediate short term. Expiring contracts, sales and CL revenue will soon fix it though.

For some reason I think they need to change the descriptors as to how they compile these lists.... LA Galaxy.....just saying.

How the hell are Spurs so high up

They've finished top 4 for the past couple of seasons in the richest league in the World? And moved to a new ground.

Debt from their club for new ground etc. and owner wealth? Doesn't make sense.

Yeah. I dunno really, I was just guessing hence my question mark. My only thinking is that the PL is the richest league in the World so surely that comes into it. Last year they posted a World record profit.

Does owners wealth come into it if owners are limited as to how much they can pump into their club?

Isn't it just based on turnover?

Good question. "Owner potential investment" is a bit blase as a criteria. I assume from that that net assets aren't taken into account in real terms.
