davieG Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 https://www.dailystar.co.uk/sport/football/players-together-full-list-premier-21838245 Premier League stars have launched a “collective initiative” to help the NHS fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The initiative, named ‘Players Together’, has been set up by top-flight captains across the country to “help those fighting for us on the NHS frontline”. It comes after the health secretary, Matt Hancock, urged footballers to “play their part” amid the pandemic last week. Here is a list of the players who have publicly backed Players Together, with others still expected to come forward. brucey Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 I presume not all players are signed up to this? From a quick scroll through instagram we have at least 6 other players who posted the graphic but are not listed above.

Aye I doubt it's a comprehensive list just posted for discussion really thought after the 'Immoral Clubs' thread a bit of positivity deserved some recognition.
Hales Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 Dennis Praet, Harvey Barnes, Ben Chilwell, Ricardo too...
fox_up_north Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 It does look like some of the older players have seen the wood for the trees and recognised the owners of their clubs might not be averse to just cutting their pay and keeping the money. Good to see they've tried to ensure the money goes where it's needed. Though it still rankles me some of the wages the big clubs throw out. I know they're paying 50% tax (if they are) but there's enough money in the league to really sort out problems in this country. A player on 20k a week could spare money for 4 junior PCs and still take home £450k a year in basic salary. This virus has just really highlighted the issue for me. Don't get me wrong it's great that they're doing this and there's hundreds of big city canary wharf boys earning more but I can't help but feel my enjoyment of the game is tainted - certainly at the top couple of levels.
Super_horns Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 I guess it's a case of grand gesture and well played to those who came up with the idea but others might say is this done too late to try and regain some good PR after a week of negative press - not helped by Mr Hancock and Taylor ?
urban fox Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 nice to see that some of the foreign players are getting involved when their own countries of origin will no doubt have similar, and in some cases worse, situations back home. Also this surely is the best way. Charitable contributions are tax deductable (or hopefully it is set up for gift aid- a scheme where the charity can claim the tax credit from HMRC) but HMRC still get the tax take from the the full wages which would be reduced significantly if there was an enforced pay cut.

Realistically I couldn't give a shit what others think. Footballers have been scapegoats here. Why should the Footballers especially of Premier League clubs take paycuts to fund other staff? The actual clubs themselves make enough to fund staff and pay them through this. Also if players did take a paycut think of the tax/national insurance contributions that would be lost. Why havent bankers, multi millionaires or billionaires been targeted? As I said Footballers are a scapegoat. Why isnt the NHS funded more so it would never have come to this? I do feel for the "smaller clubs" in the lower Leagues though.

I think you've got it in your head that now that foootballers have donated that thats it, that others shouldn't bother. Football clubs should be helping out as well as footballers. Bankers, multi-millionaires and billionaires absolutely have been targeted. Look on social media, it's all that people are talking about. Footballers absolutely should be expected to play their part in all of this. Football clubs are the centre of their communities. Footballers absolutely should be helping out in times of serious crisis like this. It's not like they're paid pittance, they can afford to take a cut like this.

This couldn't be further from the truth. MPs have been given another 10k each to work from home too havent they? Why couldn't that go into more funding? Do they really need the extra 10k to WFH? What the footballers have done is a brilliant gesture but they've been made scapegoats in this.
Super_horns Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 I agree Hancock could have said all high earning people but he was asked particularly about footballers it seems. Do think though the PFA and some clubs haven't come out of this well.

They can't stand working class footballers being rich. They won't call out Branson or Rees-Moog because it's all one fvcking circle of mates. At least footballers pay their tax. The NHS has been underfunded or run incorrectly for the past decade, it should never have come to a point where they ask footballers to donate money.
Ian Norman Droid Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 You know, the money involved in football is obscene. Totally and utterly obscene. But the players are just young lads being offered ridiculous money to play a game we'd all love to have played professionally. There's a lot of charitable work that goes on and they should be applauded for this.
Brainy Posted 9 April 2020 Posted 9 April 2020 A reminder never to be too financially successful otherwise you'll be told how and where to spend your hard earned money. Maybe i'm just a shit person, it's not a footballers repsonsibility to help the NHS or whoever. And even if it was, there's a lot of money involved in golf these days, where is the pressure on the elite golfers? It's more than just golfers and sportspeople aswell obviously. By all means help out if you want to but the hounding of footballers inparticular is pathetic

Furthermore, it’s only a relatively small elite who make ‘obscene’ dish. Think of the millions who never make it big.
