Haven't the conspiracy nutters been saying this since the start?

 

On the Telegraph site, if you reload and then soon after click stop it stops the paywall loading, takes a few attempts normally but works fine once you get the hang of the timing.

 

This is pretty damning and has concerning implications on a wider scale.

It was always a possibility, just lacked scientific evidence, which is why it remained the preserve of the conspiracy nutters. It still does tbh, which is why the whole thing is purely "balance of probability".

 

I guess another question is that if it does turn out that it got out from a Wuhan lab, then what does the world do with that information? I don't think the international community has the stomach for the pain that making China a pariah in reprisal would cause.

Agree, we are so reliant on China there isn't much we can do. And they are no doubt very aware of this. Wasn't there reportedly some US military involvement near Wuhan in 2019?

There was some collaborative work going on there, I think, though there's a dozen different stories about the nature of it and any of none of them could be true. 

 

And in all honesty, given the way this has all gone down it's likely most folks will never get to know either because the powers that be would much rather it stay a secret.

I haven’t read the full article and I don’t think it’s been a deliberate leak from the lab but what do you think the odds of this starting 200m away from a lab that has been testing coronaviruses?

No doubt it will remain a secret, but if this was deliberate then people surely have a right to know why, and for what reason.

But of course the internet nationalists and those who agree with them in the US Congress and HoP will still yell about wanting their pound of flesh.

 

(Mind you, tbh if those same nationalists push civilisation over the edge due to climate change and inaction on it then I'd damn well want history to record that they were responsible for it, so I guess that's a bit hypocritical.)

Even if the virus originated in a lab, there's no way whatsoever its release was deliberate. That would be an act of insanity.

 

Which brings us back to the possibility of an accidental release and what good the knowledge would do people if it was proven beyond sentiment.

You'd really hope not, but I don't think it can be 100% ruled out. If someone could massively benefit from it, it's always a possibility. There are a lot of psychopaths in the world that would do anything for power and money.

With everything we know about the world you can’t say you would be that shocked if it was an engineered virus that was deliberately released. Wars aren’t fought on battlefields anymore with trenches, it’s the 21st century and for me nothing can be ruled out at this point. It’s highly suspicious that China were so hesitant to help the WHO when they were trying to investigate the source and something doesn’t add up about the whole situation for me still. It could have been an accidental leak but considering what goes on with the Uighur’s in China, would anyone really be that surprised?

There's certainly no shortage of those, yes.

 

However I maintain one would have to be insane to let loose a force of nature that cannot and will not be controlled despite its origins and could just as easily turn on you as anyone else.

 

There's too much risk and far less dangerous options avaliable if power is one's goal - see US policy on the Middle East and Chinese policy in Africa.

I would be, for the reasons above. Who develops a weapon with a mind of its own that could turn around and kill you as well as the enemy? There's a reason that biological weapons are the subject of binding international agreement - even the "bad guys" think using them is too risky.

If it has been engineered, how can we know there wasn't an engineered 100% effective vaccine made which would stop that? (Just for the record, I'm not claiming any of this happened, it wasn't the Lizardmen!)

Just taken the decision to cancel all local plans between now and Christmas in order to see distant family and not risk having to self isolate for 10 days if I get covid.

Hugely hugely presumptive statement (I can’t highlight the Damn thing!!!!) but I guess you know what quote I’m talking about. The west is severely weakened and China are on a tear, we must be using billions of their testing items everyday during this pandemic.
