Aus Fox Posted 13 June 2020 Posted 13 June 2020 Did they ask him how many Premier League assists he had for us?

stripeyfox Posted 13 June 2020 Posted 13 June 2020 good article. what a great player he was for us. Contributed so much more than just his goals!

urban fox Posted 15 June 2020 Posted 15 June 2020 always rated Heskey. Came in for a lot of unfair stick from people saying he did not score enough goals, especially in an England shirt, but Owen, Cottee and almost everyone else he played with said he was the best partner they had up front. His sheer pace and physical presence struck the fear of god into defenders which created space for others. for a centre forward his assists record is right up there. Thought he and Collymore were going to tear the league apart but it was not to be. Born and bred in Leicester, educated at City Boys' school and scouted playing for local sides before coming through the academy ranks he truly was one of our own. Didn't forget his roots either, weighing in with his own dosh alongside Lineker when we were in administration. The few times i have seen him doing punditry on TV he comes across as erudite, well spoken and personable so it is a little surprising that he does not get invited to do more media work.

January47 Posted 15 June 2020 Posted 15 June 2020 In light of current discussions he's one who would have been better staying at Leicester. I remember around that time him and Collymore together. i might have my dates wrong but he I think he played against argentina and they couldn't handle him. i wonder if he was a bit too humble and lacking in true self belief to feel he kind of deserved to be at Liverpool A bit the same with his punditry. He always makes good comments but its always in a quiet, restrained manner which I'm not sure is what TV companies want. They want controversy and provocation.

He was great the first couple of seasons at Liverpool.
Webbo Posted 16 June 2020 Posted 16 June 2020 There was this interview in the MoS https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8417989/Emile-Heskey-hits-racism-rife-football.html
RumbleFox Posted 16 June 2020 Posted 16 June 2020 I honestly think were he playing today he’d get a lot more praise. I think in general footy fans are more discerning these days. “He didn’t score enough goals” never really sat well with me. Of course he should have scored more but his link up play was astounding. He was like a huge Okazaki. X
January47 Posted 16 June 2020 Posted 16 June 2020 Don't get me wrong he was a very good player. But when he first came on the scene we thought he would be a world beater.....if he had the aggression on the pitch of someone like Vardy I think he might well have been. Even when he played for us he got criticism off our fans for too easily going to ground on challenges, despite his obvious strength and power.
