He played very well yesterday against probably the toughest player you can be up against. Why can’t you acknowledge that? I sit in front of a fan who constantly berates players, last year it was KDH. His main comment yesterday? Oh my God, if Luke Thomas is our best player, how crap must we be?. Couldn’t bring himself to accept that he played well.

Did you see when I put that comment? Maybe learn some reading comprehension and get back to me.

What impressed me most was his knack to pop up in the right areas to clear the ball…. That comes from experience and he appears to have that defensive nous…. Really impressive and I think he’ll get better

Proper full back, good on the far post and a nice left foot, just lacks a bit physically, sadly the lad who’s had the shirt all season lacks all of the above in spite of being a real trier.

Sir/Miss, completely understood what you said in the English exam. Don’t see the relevance as to when it was written. He showed on Sunday that he can play but needs to do that consistently next season. In the PL, teams’ best players are often the wingers and therefore the FBs are exposed greatly. Probably not the case in the Championship. (Did I get a good grade)?

It has massive relevance.... "He played very well yesterday against probably the toughest player you can be up against. Why can’t you acknowledge that?" I am supposed to be a time-traveler that has to know well over a week after I posted it that he was gonna have a decent game against a good winger prior?

He's had two good games against Salah in his career, doesn't make him a world beater. He flattered to deceive for Boro last year and definitely looked miles out of his depth for Sheff Utd. Come back to this 6 months into next season and we'll see how good he actually is.

Did I say he was a world beater? With better coaching and experience, he could be adequate for us next season as left back is not our priority. Very few teams have wingers who should cause many problems. He is a confidence player and hopefully will get that with the more matches he plays. Btw, you’re very patronising and a bit of a know-all.

Obviously the timing of your post was a couple of weeks ago which is fair enough.

I think my issue is sometimes, and it comes across like it on your last line of this post, that people want these players to fail as their mind has been made up and want to say I told you so. I would hope that if he has a great season next season you will genuinely be pleased and be able to acknowledge this.

I’ve said it on this thread already but I think here we have an example of a player who has had the worst development possible since having his debut out of the blue when he was an unknown.

Things had gone on the slide under Rodger’s, he then was out the side and didn’t have any ‘developmental’ loans. Sheffield United was a shambles of a loan. They didn’t even play with a natural left back I don’t think and were every bit as bad as we are this season. Middlesbrough you would have expected more but I think by the time he got there, his confidence was through the floor. It’s a nice thought that every player could pull themselves back from this easily but they are only human.

For what it’s worth, he seems to have strengthened up more, and he has always shown in the odd performances he has ability so I just hope that being in the side next season, with a new manager who can be a positive influence to him and with teammates with hopefully a better mentality around him, could see him have a delayed chance to properly develop.

Fair points. My mind isn't made up already, I'm genuinely interested to gauge the opinions of him 6 months down the line if he is to start at LB for us next season. I also don't think VK is very good either but he has never played in the championship and I'd wager he'd make it look easy like most of our players do (lets not forget he had a great season with Bologna where he helped them qualify for CHAMPIONS LEAGUE, now he might be in the Championship.

My point overall is that if someone does well next year, it really means nothing because we've seen time and time again the step up can be too much!

Yeah I realise it is sometimes just how it came come across, particularly when in a debate with another poster.

I reckon Thomas has a better head on him and seems more willing to work hard. As I said above, he has also shown he can stand up to world class players on his day which is why I have always just had a feeling, that is he could sort his head (confidence) out, the potential is there to be at least a solid player at PL level, not top end or anything. I might be wrong and it could be similar to a lower league player upping his game in a big FA tie.

I have never minded VK and feel he was also written off very quickly, must be a thing about left backs with these two and Chilwell before!

Wasn’t there an issue with VK clashing with players in the squad who were pally with Thomas when he joined? I wonder if one of them needs to move on if there’s history.

Would be absolutely fine with him in there next season. Ricardo, Okoli, Nelson, Thomas would be good imo.

Throw in Souttar and Coulibaly as cover / involved in the match day squad, and there you have our defence for the title push, without spending a penny imo.

Sell or let go the other defenders.

I am sorry but you cannot judge him by the fact that Salah was not his usual self - Salah was already on the beach, even then he had multiple chances. The comment of "had him on toast" is so far stretched it's like saying GTF would be quicker than Vardy (if Vardy has just ran 3 marathons in a row whilst in the knowledge that on any given day he could run backwards faster than GTF)

The fact Luke Thomas, Coulibaly and Justin can play Left Back means for me that position is fully covered and is a position we don't have to worry about.

If Ricardo stays then I don't think we need to worry about either full back position really

Although I personally would consider moving Ricardo into being in a double pivot with Skipp (not inverting) which I think would be better for him physically and we all know he is more than good enough in the middle for the Championship

TBH I think we're sorted for the defence with Okoli, Nelson, Souttar + 1 of Coady, Vesty (sell Faes and one of those 2)

Just depends on how well Souttar does on his recovery for me

If he isn't going to be back until later in the year then we might need to move for a new centre back (unless we are still stuck with 2 from Coady, Faes and Vestergaard)

Before yesterday I didn't think he was good enough and had lost his way.

Yesterday he looked back to his former self a little. He also looks like he is starting to bulk up a little.

I hope a season in the championship helps him develop into a decent player for us for the years to come.

To be fair to him, his career was dead here but he’s worked his way back and played well in a terrible side. Deserves the chance to have a go next season at nailing down that place.

My wildcard POTS next season pick. We'll then give him a new 5 year deal and change manager and who won't play him.

Ive really enjoyed watching him play. I though his display against Liverpool was excellent and i thought he was good yesterday. Sadly, he's one bad game away from our fans just calling him sh1te and the manager dropping him for half a season.

Did you see him vs Liverpool? He is Salah kryptonite.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by how good he’s been actually.

I remember when he was coming through, how highly he was rated.  If his form can stay consistent then i’d be comfortable if we stuck with him next season.

In fact, the prospect of seeing him, Nelson, Monga, Evans and Alves in the same side, actually makes me a lot happier.
