He looks like the type of lad that takes his job seriously and works hard to improve all areas of his game.  I thought he looked physically stronger in the last few games and his reading of the game has massively improved in my opinion.

Next season, I really see him being a dependable 7-8/10 every week.  Just what we need.

Was out on the booze regularly with Barnes and Maddison (and KDH to a lesser extent) in 22/23

His recent appearances haven’t changed my mind at all to be honest, he’s just been OK.

He doesn’t do anything particularly well - Will struggle next year if he’s going to be a regular. Lower Championship/League 1 standard.

Hopefully he’ll prove me wrong…and I’ll love it if he does…desperately need players stepping up next year. Just don’t think he’ll be one of them.

I agree with this. So many people react to short term upticks in form just as they do to poor form. “Oh… I’ve always defended him and how right I was ….” Etc.

There is nothing stand out in his game in any department. If consolidation in the Championship is our aim then he might be our man. Any other longer term ambition … I don’t see it personally

The same Barnes and Maddison that are held in very high regard here.

Not sure of that. Loves a booze.

His heart is the right place but to really get that consistency, he's gotta go up a level in terms of professionalism. I think he's an example of how the bad parts of the squad affected him and now he's more 'alone', he's settling down a bit.

Interesting insight.  Hopefully some of these distractions will diminish as the clearout progresses.  As he matures as an adult, hopefully he'll realise that if he can get his head down he'll take his game to the next level.

Maddison haha.

Biggest thing he's remembered for by a huge portion of lads is missing the pen against Everton than affectively relegated us.

No different to those waiting eagerly for him to have a poor game to slate him and say I told you so though.

Some people just see the bigger picture of how his early career was a mess and there was no developmental loan. He was thrown in during the time Rodger’s had started to decline and had his confidence shot. The loans he had last season were shite. He has shown he can belong against the likes of Salah and in the FA Cup final.

Personally I have always wanted to give him a chance due to the above. I believe confidence and consistency are bigger issues over talent necessarily. If he is given the chance to make the position his own next season, at Championship level, with a better manager and ‘team’ rather than group of individuals and isn’t great then I would re-evaluate. Until such time I believe he has actually been here and had a run of games in a positive team, I will always wonder.

Last year of his contract and has shown he can be a solid player, recon there is a chance we sell in the summer?

I wouldn’t be shocked if we cash in.

Given that we turned down more for McAteer than we've ever been offered for Thomas, I'd guess not.

That was dependant on Sunderland getting promoted though wasn’t it, although I guess I am assuming an element of competence at the club which isn’t apparent.

Our right fullback in the greatest team we’ve ever had (Simmo) did nothing special either, he didn’t stand out just did his job defending and pushing Riyad up the pitch to do what he’s good at. Both good on the back post as a full back should be, Simmo more rugged and defensively sound, Thomas better on the ball but solid enough, certainly against the championship sides. He will be absolutely fine next year.

I had thought about Simpson and it’s a good comparison. What that team achieved, however, is likely to throw up a few exceptions to prove a rule. DS didn’t set the world alight in any other team.

Luke might be lucky enough to play in a team like that one day, alongside a Morgan or Huth, with a world class winger ahead of him,  in a team that is greater than the sum of its parts. I think that’s quite unlikely, however, and it’s much more likely his ceiling is mediocre player at Championship level

Many players to move on before Luke.   Not premiership standard but  in defence I’d rather see Vesty, Faes, Coady, Kristianson, possibly Souttar gone before him.

But that's exactly the sort of mistake we keep making.  We'd cash in for a few mill and then find we'd have to pay significantly more for a replacement who would turn out to be not at that level.

Best to go with Thomas for next season in the Championship, and bear in mind that we look to have a super young LB prospect in the development squad that we could introduce gradually too.

I don’t know, the other mistake we have made quite a lot which got us into this mess is letting people leave on a free.

Add to that - Keeping faith in players who have proven time and time again that they are not good enough.

Things will be different in a new setup, under a new manager etc etc.

Romano reported we had a few million offered for Thomas from Hoffenheim

Never ever rated him but he's been pretty good the last few games.

All down to him now to bulk up a bit over summer period and get himself incredibly fit and start to nail down a place in the side.

The biggest mistake we make is keeping people who we could sell.

Assume we get 5mil for him, then that’s pure profit as he came through the academy. You then buy someone for 5 mill and amortise over the course of their deal.

I still don’t know about Luke. Is he consistent enough to play a season in the championship? And is he likely to leave when his deal runs out? I think a lot will be decided by his thoughts / dedication to the club.

Thomas actually made Deeney's team of the week & whilst these things don't necessary equate to everyone's best player in 'x' position it does suggest that his performance was noted amongst all the other fullbacks.
He also had RVN as manager of the week so does whiff of a sympathy vote but still
