I like the Rob Key appointment. Strikes me as someone who isn’t afraid to make tough decisions

Not so sure myself, probably an update on Giles no doubt.

Talks a good game but very pro hundred. Does have passion for the county game, let's hope it works out.

I wonder if he goes for Kirsten/Collingwood coach setup.

I know he's a fan of splitting the red/white ball coaching which I agree is the way to go

Don’t watch much of IPL but tuned in at the end today to see Chris Jordan almost single handidly throw the game away.

Needing 45 from the last three overs they scored 38 from his final 11 balls, about half of which were full tosses. Finished with figures of 0-58 from 3.5.

Hopefully a combination of the world cup and this ends his England career. No idea how he makes the team

Think everyone agrees it's probably the best way to go, with how different the playing squads are it's essentially two separate entities anyway. Kirsten for the test job which works as he's said he doesn't want to coach all formats and whoever for the white ball stuff, wouldn't surprise me if one of the Hundred coaches were looked at Fleming or Katich someone like that.

Buttler is in some serious form this IPL.

Incredible knock earlier. KKR (or Shreyas Iyer and Finch specifically) made a game of it!

Isn't this part of the problem with the Test team, though? He could be playing for Lancashire in the Championship.

Probably, but if you're that good at T20 you should be deserve to playing it. Buttler probably feels that ship might have sailed now and can focus on being the best one day player.

Buttler again :appl:

Great batting and a very good game, but what the hell was Pant doing. Ushering for his players to leave the pitch because he didn't like the umpires decision. Reminded me of when Pakistan refused to leave the dressing room because of the umpires.

Was embarrassing and hindered his team in the end by stopping all the momentum.

Probably was a no ball but no worse an issue than some of the shite fielding and bowling that was on show.

Such a strange one with England. I agree that maybe an “interim” captain is the way to go.

Given Stokes’ heavy schedule, it’s a lot to ask of him, particularly after taking a break from cricket. He’d probably have to drop T20s for a bit.

Only he and Root are guaranteed a spot in the XI at the moment. You could make an argument for Bairstow too.

Bairstow has odd patches of form both bad and good so seems unlikely

Always think it's a weird dynamic when you have a new captain when the old one is still there. Especially if it's changed due to poor performances rather than when the likes of Kohli have give up captaincy.

Apparently Stokes says he will bring back Anderson and Broad which insinuates it was Root played a part in them not going to the west indies.

Hope it goes well because Stokes can be a cricketing legend if he turns out to be a great captain as well. I have my concerns though.

Fitness is the biggest concern really isn't it.

Crawley having a great start to the season ...... Just noticed Bell-Drummond has got another hundred, his red ball average is just over 30 but averages over 40 in one day but weirdly don't think I've ever seen him put forward for ODI selection.

McCullum after the test job, new name I don't think has cropped up before

It's a Yes from me.

I watched that recent series on Sky with Tuffers and McCullum touring NZ playing golf and he came across as an absolute top bloke.

Hero worshipped in NZ and a true leader of men. I think he'd be a brilliant appointment.

Struggle to think of many New Zealand cricketers or teams since I've followed it who I've disliked. I wouldn't mind him to be honest, although with his experience you'd associate his name with coaching white ball. I just don't want us to appoint someone's pal from the County circuit.

Yeah, I get that. I just think he'd bring a youthful energy and would hopefully inspire the test team to play a great brand of cricket.

I know he's inexperienced and it would be a risk, but I'm all for it.
