That’s in part because Cooper gave him minimal minutes in the preseason matches and then benched him during the first part of his tenure and then suddenly expected him to play 90mins. No stepping of minutes - it went from nothing to full on. That is not how you manage Ricardo!

So he needs special treatment then otherwise one game knackers him? It gets worse.

He didnt bomb up and down the wing this season. He broke down pretty quickly after his first full appearance.

Thats not 100% true though.

Like Abdul he was benched and out of favour, barely played for 2 months and when he finally gets some minutes he breaks down. Poor man management.

Love the guy but if we can get any money for him, we should take it.

His fitness record isn't great and isn't gonna get any better.  His wages will be massive too so offloading now would be smart.

It saddens me to say it but I agree 100%

Brilliant when fit...but that's the problem.

If we get 10 games out of him next season we would have done well.

My preference would be stay next season, release end of next season, please whatever we do,do NOT give him a new contract again!!!!,just way to injury prone nowadays, always will be one of favourite players, but you can tell injures like Justin have taken a toil on him

Yes He needs to be treated with respect to his ability but also his medical history. Enzo managed him respectfully to the extent that he played 39 league games last season, more than in any other season for us. Cooper did the exact opposite, ignored him, gave him no opportunity to get match fit in pre season and nor at the start of the season and that resulted in a bad strain (hamstring) injury when Cooper suddenly decided he needed him v Ipswich away.

If there was any further needed to demonstrate how Cooper ****ed our season to the point of almost certain unsalvageability this is it. I've never seen such an amateur approach to season preparation and squad management.

Sorry - I would take that if Ricardo was bombing up the wing and overplayed for games. He fell apart pretty much immediately but should have been able to keep himself fit in the meantime.

Injury wise he is a liability we cant afford.

Ric can do what he wants. I think he’s earnt that right. Hopefully that means staying with us, becoming Captain, leading us back to the promised land and leading a coup against the regime!

"Can do what we wants"

Isn't that part of the wider problem?

Is this just an agent move for a new contract? Rather cynical I know, but is another team going to pick up a crocked player and a complete contraindication to what Riccy implies on Instagram.

This article mentions how Enzo looked after him, which worked.

Chelsea vs Tottenham: Enzo Maresca on playing Reece James in midfield - BBC Sport

We were playing pedestrian possession football in the Championship that bored the pants off the fans. No matter what way you look at it, the PL is another level. The last 2 seasons he has spent in the PL have been plagued by injury - that's not a coincidence.

Lol - naturally! But he's a bit older since last time.

Love Riccy. One of the nicest i've met outside the stadium too.

Well I really liked Enzo’s football, there was a plan on and off the ball and a structure and it worked well as we won the league. It also ensured we were able to utilise Ricardo very effectively in the absolutely key and complex inverted fullback role that acknowledged his outstanding technique and ability AND managed his physicality. He was never given that full opportunity before Enzo and certainly not after when he was managed terribly by Cooper.

Your point comparing the leagues is presumably that The Championship is easier on the body and that’s why Ricardo managed so many appearances last time? Whilst I don’t necessarily agree with you, that’s where we are going to be next year so what’s wrong with keeping him around?

I would be absolutely flabbergasted If someone paid us a fee and covered all of Ricardo’s wages.

EDIT: scary thing is though, you could say the same about more than half of our squad.

Wages are reduced in the championship

But getting Italian/spanish clubs to cover 55k per week will be difficult

might still have to take 750k off the fees

I think his experience could be vital next year if you consider a team of Thomas, Okoli, Nelson, Skipp, Fatawu, BEK, Alves, Jakub, Mcateer, Monga, Evans etc. He is one of the only ecperiences players who are good enough to get into the starting 11.

He doesn’t want to be here anymore. He’s 2 years older than the last time we started in the Championship. As much as I love him he doesn’t represent the future of the club, and he’s on very high wages.

I’m not really sure where this one goes. I can see him staying and I’m sure he will put in all the effort he can do. But then,  can see him going to Chelsea as backup and getting some decent game time in.

I wish he was 25 years old and injury free.

On the list of players to get out of the club he’s low on the list for me, based on what we’d get for him in conjunction with what he offers on and off the pitch. Basically he’s a great player who because of his previous injuries isn’t going to command the fee that will offset his loss. There’s more obvious players that don’t have Ricardo’s influence but despite that will command more of a fee that we should be looking to move on if possible.
