I think his statement clearly having a dig at the club, which tell me he's leaving probably his agent has already got potential move sorted for him, I'd be surprised if he wants to play championship football and to be honest could blame him for leaving

He's the wrong side of 30, struggles terribly with injuries and is on a good wage here. There's no way he leaves. He'll be here next season then will leave on a free (unless we go up then we will amost certainly offer him something like a 3 year deal at 80k a week).

There was an interesting article, from Maresca that used RP as an example for Reece James, who has also been plagued by injuries.

By making them inverted midfielders they were reducing the load.

 

"In terms of data, you can see that when a full-back plays in the way they used to play, up and down, they (do that) much, much, much more (often) than to go inside, covering a (bigger) distance, for the amount of times they go up and down," he said.

"So for sure that way that we are using James, in some games, can help him.

Not one of the problems though, on a good screw so unlikely to have many suitors so can do a job and if we can get 30+ games out of him (big If) he will be an asset next season. Sadly we have very few players who look like they are even bothered. About time Seagreave and all the staff their start improving players fitness and a fit Ricky P would rip up the championship.

I think the 80k a week is after the relegation deduction, heard he is on 120k a week now.

This 120k/week is touted around and makes no sense whatsoever 

at the time we gave him his new contract he was still recovering from another long term injury - it seemed obvious that we would use that to get a deal at a good rate. Remember that he had already failed to have an unbroken long run post ACL so few clubs would have been prepared to take a chance on him (and certainly not at 80k+).

 

There is no way we agreed a deal at a similar number to madders and 20k below vards given those background factors. He was on around 80k before and my assumption is that we wouldn’t have offered more than that on his extension. 
 

The above assumes some competence at board level.  Clearly that’s an open goal to argue against me but seriously - we cannot be that badly run - a ten y o wouldn’t do that.

But insurance covers the salary when injured?
