Murray Walker Passes Away Aged 97

What a legend.

 

Watching F1 in the 90s/00s was always associated with Walker on the mic and only his voice could really and truly convey the drama that was happening on the track.

My most recent favourite memories of his are actually some of his commentary for the F1 ('97/'98?) games on the Playstation 1 that I used to play with a friend at the time.  (He's going that wrong way! He's going the wrong way round the track! What could he be thinking of? )

A staple of my Sunday lunch as a young kid. Never really had much interest beyond watching the start of the race, yet his wit and enthusiasm was chaos, loved it. Played the late PS 1 games and his commentary was great, poured hours into those games.

I don't watch F1 near as much as I used to, but when I do watch it, I can still hear his voice.

Had the pleasure of meeting Murray a couple of times. Murray was a big part of my childhood.  Commentating on the touring cars on Grandstand on a Saturday,  then the F1 on a Sunday. He could make even the most boring races sound exciting.
