Yeah more than likely! You'd think that would see us move to a back 4 but no, Petty stuck Braybooke in as a sweeper 😂😂

Alves: It Just Wasn’t Our Night
ACADEMY

Will Alves was left wondering what might have been after Leicester City’s Under-18s were beaten late on by Manchester United in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday evening.

- Leicester City Under-18s’ were knocked out of the FA Youth Cup by Manchester United on Thursday
- Chris Popov scored for the Foxes before Alejandro Garnacho’s brace saw the Red Devils progress
- Forward Will Alves spoke to LCFC.com following the last-gasp 2-1 defeat at Old Trafford
- He believes it was a great occasion to experience on a big stage in front of a sizeable crowd

The 2-1 scoreline knocked the Foxes out at the quarter-final stage, following three impressive wins to set up an away tie at Old Trafford - an occasion the players will never forget.

The visitors started well, too, scoring through Chris Popov and creating further chances either side of Alejandro Garnacho’s stunning free-kick equaliser, before the Red Devils youngster won the game for his side late on, ending Leicester’s hopes of further progression.

“It was very disappointing for everyone,” Alves, who played 90 minutes in Manchester, admitted to LCFC.com after the game. “We’d been on such a good run and had momentum and we genuinely believed we could win that game.

“I feel like we had good control of the game in the first half, and we had a real belief that we could win the game and get through this round. None of us gave up and we gave it our all throughout the game but unfortunately it just wasn’t to be on the night.

“It was an incredible experience playing in front of probably the biggest crowd some of us may have played in front of, it was a great experience for everyone, and we can take a lot of learning from it."

The forward also shares coach Adam Barradell’s feelings about the group being able to hold their heads up high following an excellent run to reach the last-eight of the competition, which included knocking out the holders in round three.

With a U18 Premier League Cup Semi-Final to come, alongside a series of important league fixtures, the young Foxes’ season is far from over as they look to achieve more success.

Obviously we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but there’s still so much to play for throughout the season as well.

Alves continued: “Obviously we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved so far, but there’s still so much to play for throughout the season as well, being in the semi-final of the Premier League Cup and also challenging for the league at Under-18s level.”

The young forward has made 13 appearances for the Development Squad across Premier League 2 Division 1 and the Papa John’s Trophy so far this term, gaining experiences that he has been able to use when featuring back in the youth team.

“It’s really good for myself playing through different age groups,” the Leicester-born attacker explained. “For the Under-23s, I have to be more alert in what I’m doing and sometimes mix up my game a bit more and it really pushes me to be at my best as well in the Under-23s.

“Also just getting my confidence up when I’m playing Under-18s, being confident on the ball and trying to take in what I do for the Under-18s into the Under-23 games as well.”

Leicester City have one of the most profitable academies in the world, according to figures from a new study.

The International Centre for Sports Studies (CIES) Football Observatory Weekly Post has looked at the clubs whose academies have generated the most income from the transfer of graduates since July 2015, and Leicester feature in the top 50 worldwide.

According to the report, City have made 71 million euros from academy graduate player sales in the last seven years, courtesy of the sales of Ben Chilwell to Chelsea and Jeffrey Sclupp to Crystal Palace.

AS Monaco have made the most money from academy graduates, thanks in no small part to Kylian Mbappe’s record transfer to PSG, which contributed to the 246m euros in fees generated since 2015.

Real Madrid are second in the list, with 236m euros made from the transfers of 11 academy graduates.

Leicester are 24th on the list.

Other English teams joining the Foxes in the top 50 are Liverpool (131m euros), Manchester City (78m), Chelsea (75m), Arsenal (75m), Crystal Palace (56m), Fulham (53m), Sheffield United (50m), Spurs (48m), Manchester United (42m), Sunderland (40m), Nottingham Forest (39m) Swansea City (38m) and Leeds (37m).

Too soon judging by what brendan said earlier ....

I thought he meant too soon to be considered in the 1st team and that he needed a few U23 games, which because they only play once a week or more is difficult to schedule. I think he could be involved tonight.

Very interesting.....but id love to see them also factor in the current asset values of Academy graduates playing in first team squads.....and also the cost of funding those academies for the past 7 years.

be interesting to see if a different picture on profitability emerged rather than just simply basing it on income on sales as clubs at the top of the food chain dont tend to sell their very best academy graduates.

As an example, Chelsea currently have Mount, James, Chalobah, Hudson-Odoi, RLC & christensen in their first team squad (+ Tomori & Gilmour on loan) and their combined asset value would probably put them ahead of AS Monaco at the top of the list

Do my eyes deceive me... are we actually starting with a back 4?!

I was just impressed the amount of senior experience in the starting line up! All of them, save maybe Suengchitthawon, probably have a career at least at Championship level.

Still not naming a striker in the squad. Amani Richards left Arsenal because they were clogging up the U18's and U23's and now we have 3 strikers for our U18's in Kian Pennant, Chris Popov and Richards and zero in the U23's.

Just get one of them in the U23's, it's bizarre.

.....good run by Ewing, support came too late, but when he got there our player just stop and backed off the goal keeper!!!

While your travelled so far up the pitch, just go those extra 10 yards to pressure the keeper, the keeper mis-controlled the ball anyway, just stop sitting off Goalkeepers.
