You wouldn’t ask messi to play full back ……

braybrooke was semi understandable 

 

the difference in the performance once we changed shape and brought braybrooke into midfield was more than noticeable …..

 

 alves still wasted out wide in that second half whilst he was on which was our fault for not switching play effectively

Any of you worried Alves isn't amongst those, he's not yet 17 despite what they said on the commentary last night. However, there's a long term contract already lined up (3 years is the max until he's 18 and then a bigger one to follow).

Only 2 I'm surprised haven't been part of this cohort is Kian Pennant and Wormleighton.

No matter what happens with the main team and if the season doesn't amount to anything, the youngsters in the academy are absolutely flourishing. A category one academy absolutely full to the brim with fantastic talent, we're set for a while in terms of youth graduates coming through - feels like the start of something a little bit special! Can just see in 2-3 year's time our main squad having quite a few homegrown grads.

 

Brilliant news regarding the 15 new deals though, hope some of them can get some championship loans next season straight away

But the progress of our academy will be for nothing if they aren't given first team opportunities either with us, or out on loan. There's a couple who should be on the bench for us already to be honest. Rodgers froze out Demarai Gray & I would like to see him do the same with Perez and other deadwood & replace them with our youngsters.

I think there'll be scope for that this summer - alongside shipping out deadwood and strengthening in a few areas, the club needs to make sure they spend time finding the perfect loans for some of the young lads. Maybe going back to places we've loaned out to before like Luton as we've seemingly got a good relationship with them and reading that KDH article it's clear that the manager there valued him massively before he even arrived. Don't like the club just shipping youngsters to anyone that'll take them - as we've seen with Leuven and a few others they get way less playing time than they would with the u23's and it stagnates them a bit

Not sure I agree. Winning a trophy for any age group is massive.

Youth Cup is the premier competition at youth level. Combined that if the under 18s win their league as well, they will qualify for the Youth League. I’d rather have them playing minutes than sitting on the bench. 
 

If this crop was 20 to 21, id agree but there’s still a bit of development required there

we chased PL2 for years and kept players here that should have been released or out on loan to do so and winning it would mean nothing in the grand scheme of things, of course its nice for the boys involved but its meaningless, the first team comes first if that means 3 or 4 players can't play for the U18s, so be it, Braybrooke and Alves are the only 2 of the players I'm thinking of that are eligible anyway

It's the best news coming out of the club for a long time.

I think playing infront of a what I assume will be a  decent sized crowd at old trafford, in a game with something riding on it is more benefecial than sitting on the bench in denmark.

The game against Randers is - or at least, should be - fairly straightforward and little more than a glorified friendly. If we take the kids then they won't start, but maybe 30 mins max at the end of a dead tie which isn't going to be nearly as inspiring for them as it might first seem.

 

Compare that to a highly-competitive quarter final at one of the most iconic stadiums in the country in front of a good crowd, and the chance to (potentially) win something alongside their peers whilst wearing the club colours. It should give them a taste for success and hopefully they can kick on and win the whole thing.

 

Then on the flip side, imagine how demoralising it'd be to travel to Denmark, not get any meaningful competitive minutes and then watch whilst your teammates back in England struggle in the cup, knowing that you could've potentially made the difference.

 

Let them stay and make their own achievements, rather than being a footnote in those of the first team.

For me they should have been in the squad for the first leg as it was the perfect opportunity to give a few of them more senior minutes. I don't think them missing the FA Youth Cup game for the 2nd leg is a good idea though.
