Go to summonwater village and kill the Tibia Mariner, quite easy on horseback. You get the Skeletal Militiaman Summon, helped me no end killing some of the other bosses that were giving me trouble. Looking at YOU, Grave Warden Duelist.

Yeah, he was decent and worth it. We also 'did in' Black Knife Assassin in the Deathtouched Catacombs, he gives you runes and the Assassins Cerulean Dagger, which restorees HP on critical hits.

edit This is a talisman and not an actual dagger

the umigatana is in that dungeon too, easy to miss little passage, worth going back for

That's what I love about this game. I thought I'd pretty much done most of the bits in Stormhill, but going by the last couple of comments I still have more than enough to do!

have you beat the Crucibal Knight yet? that guy was almost a controller smasher for me! especially as you can't use summons.

Not yet no, only really done the fairly easy ones around Limgrave and a few others in random directions!

Might give this a go after all the positive reviews, will playing on PS4 dilute the experience?

I’m playing on Xbox One and it’s absolutely fine, go for it!

Which summons were you using out of interest?

Skeletal militiamen, plus there was a gold summon message thing just before, had a sorcerer co-op with me.

you can summon for margit? i couldnt

You have to pass the fog wall first, no summons in the castle proper.  Between the jellyfish and the summonable NPC just before you enter you get more than enough secondary aggro to keep him distracted while you wail away.

So undecided on whether or not to purchase this. I've just got a new XBox Series X and am itching to try a next gen game. I don't want my first experience to be rubbish and frustrating, though.

rubbish, definitely not

frustrating, 100%

but in my opinion, it's one of the best games I have played recently, just for the open world aspect where you aren't essentially just an delivery person. I'd highly recommend it if you like exploration games rather than story driven.

The combat is true to the previous titles so if you struggled there you'll struggle here too, but you do get more options for negotiating it so overall I'd say it's more forgiving.  Additionally the distribution of sites of grace (bonfires) and stakes of Marika (checkpoints) means you rarely die so far away from a spawn point that retrieving your lost runes (souls) is a major struggle, so there's less sense of being penalised for experimenting and taking risks.  Like in DS3, all the big bads have a bonfire right next to their arena so there's none of that frustration of reaching a boss with half health and a few flask charges used up.   Aaaand you can allocate flask charges at will, so for instance if I know I'm about to go into a big fight I'll put most of my charges into the magic flask so I can spam spells but when I'm exploring I'll have them more evenly distributed so I can heal more and spend more time looking around before returning to a bonfire.  Defeating groups of enemies will now recharge your flasks too which also helps to stay in the field longer.  So yeah, definitely not rubbish and there's been a lot of attention to quality of life changes that make it feel less daunting to overcome each new obstacle.

Things you wish you hadn't done in Elden Ring #1 : Killed Knight Bernahl

Bugger

why? Aint he the guy that just sells some pretty early game ashes of war?

also, seeing as he's brought up, if you go to where he is at nighttime, there is a boss instead of him there.

I spend my entire time in early game lol

Its just you cannot get what he sells anywhere else and we only went for his armour, which is crap anyway!

Ok disregard everything I said above about this game being less rage inducing than previous titles.  In the time since posting that I've hit no less than 3 solid, **** you in particular, roadblocks that I'm going to have to git gud and return to later. lol

Edit: Tbf I'm doing an Intelligence build and so far all the good stuff I've found is faith or strength/dex based so I reckon until I find more relevant pickups I'm in a worse place than I would be had I picked any other specialisation.  The trouble is these bosses are all in places which I'm pretty sure are hiding gear for my class!

Just get gamepass and try out anything that tickles your fancy.
