The worst thing about the Olympics is having to see Beth Tweddle's face on my TV

Yeah, she’s no Rebecca Adlington bless her.

I used to skate to a pretty decent standard when I was a lot younger and I have to say I found the street contest pretty under whelming. A few good tricks in the big trick contest and obviously the consistency is impressive but just thought it was a bit meh.

I watched the first heat live last night. It was awful as a spectator sport. So dull.

Edit... I should say that I don't mean that disrespectfully to the competitors.

But I was expecting something more like that mental shit the snowboarding lot do in the winter games.

A guy grinding down a pole isn't what I'd consider a spectator sport, and God bless the commentators, but it certainly wasn't "gnarly".

Agreed, they should skateboard off a cliff after sniffing half a litre of poppers and lucozade.

Exactly, more like Town Hall Square!

I respect that they're the best at what they do, which is admirable, but it doesn't translate to TV.

I understand there's 2 different competitions though, will the other side be on a half pipe? That should be a better watch if it is.

I said this earlier in the thread. Street skating is skating in the streets with your mates, you can't replicate it with a fancy course and it is not a sport. It is against what skating is about imo.

Half pipe and mega are more suited to competition and would've bought way more appeal. But the Olympic committee for various reasons decided against it.

There's been big debate that it shouldn't even be at the Olympics and personally I'd don't think it does.

There's way more mental stuff in Skating than in Snowboarding. For one all the tricks are similar as the board is tied to your feet and when you slam it's on nice powdery snow.  I find Snowboarding dull to watch, fun to do mind.

Half pipe isn't in the Olympics.

Those downhill snowboarding races are nuts. Not that I expected anything like that.

What's the other discipline then? I know they said street and something else

So it's just a big bowl with high sides?

Plenty of scope for some big tricks?

I hope so.

When they said skateboarding was in, I was expecting Tony Hawk shit, I just felt disappointed with what I saw today.

Again, no disrespect, they're awesome at what they do, but dull on TV.

Yeah pretty much so hopefully it'll flow a lot more. Like I said Half pipe and mega ramp would've definitely got more of a wow factor.

If you wanna see real street skating here you go.

The morons working out in Tokyo are unbelievable.

Johnny Brownlee finishes 5th, nowhere near a medal.

Interviewer: "Is that the end you wanted Johnny?"

Fvck me. I've said on here my dream is to be a journalist. The woman who asked that should be ashamed of herself.

Stealing a living.

I enjoyed the street contest.  You had the big upset with Nyjah not even making the podium and local boy Yuto absolutely nailing his trick section to shut out Hoeffler after he dominated the runs.  I do think it lacked a bit for atmosphere, but that's not something they could help.  See here for an event with crowds:

You can't compare these runs to promo videos where they do take after take until they get the perfect shot, that's like comparing a footballer's highlights reel to their performance in a single match.

This coverage is horrendous.

"So, over to the Stadium for the rugby 7's, where this venue hosted 4 games at the rugby world cup a couple of years ago, how does the atmosphere compare?"

Reporter..."erm, there's no fans allowed in"

Coverage is awful.

It's been well documented why the BBC aren't doing the job we're used to, but Jesus, it's terrible.

"Ok, so we're going to go over to..."

Something recorded 6 hours ago and I've got to listen to horrendous Australian commentary.

JJ Chalmers is a terrible presenter. Doesn't even try to hide the fact he's just reading off an autocue.

I know at least 3 guys who've lost limbs in Afghanistan that would do a better job than him.

They're from places like Wigston though and don't have privileged parents.
