Also read that a games-concerned personnel at the Olympic village tested positive for covid and they are a non-Tokyo resident...hope all the athletes stay safe.

Underway in the football.

Nice to have some sport to watch whilst working at home

I love the Olympics. It's a real shame about the no fans at this one, but I'm sure Tokyo (and other locations hosting events) will put on a good show.

I live about 45 minutes away by subway, on the other side of the city, and I thought I'd pop down as a kind of sentimental journey. The last time a British football team played here was in the 2002 World Cup. England v Argentina. I was living in Wigston at the time, but came out here to follow England. I didn't have a ticket for the Argentina game and spent several days walking round the city with a sign asking for spares. The average price was about 400 quid on the black market and I couldn't go that high. Finally I got one the day before the game for about 150 quid, and of course England won with Beckham's famous penalty (no-one criticized Owen for diving to win it).

Anyway, I realized while I was wandering round this place that it is a beautiful city, and I thought 'right, I'll come and work here'. So next year, I did and have been here ever since.

Remeber that game well. The defender who "clashed" with Owen to concede the penalty was non other than future Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino!

Christine Sinclair(who else? lol) with a goal for us(Canada) 5 minutes in, but a 1-1 draw with Japan in the opener.

Shocked by the US losing by 3 to Sweden.

Congrats to the GB girls on their opening win

It's been a major news item in Poland last couple of days lol

Those six who were sent back intend to sue Polish swimming association and demand its chairman dismissed. If succesful they could end up being over 1 million pounds (to share not each) better off! That would be hilarious as their chances of winning anything in Japan were rather slim, to put it mildly

Pleasantly surprised by the Swedish win. They played with their usual physicality, but they've improved no end technically.

It's good for the women's national team competitions that the US have seen their streak of dominance ended. I'm sure they'll recover but hopefully not so much as to regain the superiority they've enjoyed.

It's going to be an interesting Olympics as far as women's footer is concerned.

Anyone know why soumare and Fofana not in French side?

I mean from a purely selfish point of view, who cares. Gives them time to have pre-season and be match ready for Man City.

Will they show the skateboarding on tv?

I think Eurosport are covering everything - they have several channels and lots of stuff on red button

I might watch the vert but not sure about the street. Some of the best street skaters are not there as they wouldn't pass the dope test 😂

Just checked and there is no vert haha, weird that
