I think the park skateboarding will go down better than the street. The park will seem more exciting as some of the street tricks, even though they are very difficult won't give off the wow factor unless you know a little bit about skating. 

 

If anyone enjoys the skating and wants to delve a little deeper then check out Milton Martinez, he's absolutely insane and is the true essence of street skating.

Paid 1 billion for it too - no wonder the BBC didn't try to compete.

 

Apparently they have taken over the whole of the European coverage so really all the channels in each country are probably in the same boat now. 

 

BBC will still show the key events though which is good like the athletics and cycling which will interest most but shame for many sports that they won't get the exposure the Olympics gives them. 

 

The time of the event doesn't help but then people in Australia and New Zealand probably say that all the time!

Loved the irony that the Telegraph, which has done so much on it's anti-BBC culture war to rail so many against it, are now complaining that the BBC aren't showing much coverage because they couldn't afford to compete commercially.

 

The main thing though is the IOC, who just sold this for the megabucks without even doing a proper tender. The only way their deal with Discovery was allowed to happen was because of the subletting of rights to the BBC.

 

There are ten Eurosport channels on my Virgin box (assume same on Sky) and at least the Eurosport Player is only £30 a year or £7 for the month. Relatively accessible, but it's just not the BBC. Perhaps those so against what the BBC do might take stock and try and appreciate what they can actually offer. Even this "lesser" coverage is still 100x more than ITV/C4/C5 would ever bother with.

I assume the cameras missed it, but I didn't see much congratulating towards Kiesenhofer either. Not sure if it was dumbfounded shock or they were all pissed

I wondered this. I'm no expert in cycling and pelatons and the like, but I think they thought they were reeling in the two breakaways (Poland and Israel?) - which they did easily, whilst not realising the Austrian was home and hosed!
