Sir Steve Howard Posted 24 March Posted 24 March Getting a lot of heat at the moment but he's got a free pass for life based on Spartak (a) 1
Muzzy_no7 Posted 24 March Posted 24 March Has to keep playing ahead of Ayew. Next season he will bag in a 4-3-1-2 or 4-4-2.

His numbers at his previous club had many interested. There was a lot of interest from Klopp and Liverpool. The problem with raw potential is the player has to be willing to adapt to circumstances and put the extra work in. Take Vardy - plenty of raw potential but let's not forget the work that man put in on numerous occasions to realise that potential. You dont go from giving away a last minute penalty in minus 5 against Middlesbrough to becoming a PL legend, without hard work. Daka on the other hand is already a legend in Zambia - the man cannot walk the streets without being mobbed. And for a player he is probably one of the best out of that part of Africa. Is the same drive there if every few months you are going back and being told you are up there with Drogba, Adebayor, Weah and Amokachi. Probably not. I have little sympathy with Daka in the same way I have little sympathy with a lot of other players in our current squad. Their predecessors showed them what hard work does. James, Drinkwater, Morgan, Simpson, Vardy, Mahrez, Barnes, KDH, Maddison, Fuchs, Kasper etc. They all came with raw talent - none of them were the finished article. In the case of Barnes and KDH, through the youth system - KDH a late developer but they work on improving. And as fans, you can see that - from what they when they all came in to what they were when they left. As a fan, you can love and respect that. Because of those players, you have guys like Daka on extortionate wages - he hasnt earnt one penny in his time here. Not one. He'll fall off a cliff now and feel sorry for himself. We have seen it before. But will he spend a couple of extra hours in the gym ? with the nutritionist ? on the training pitch working on shooting ? Of course he wont. We have a squad of assholes. Who believe its everyone elses fault. But wont look at those who followed them. That performance on Saturday - I dont care how much he ran around. Two real chances and he fluffed it again. I cant respect any of them. I hope they stumble over the line and then **** right off. Many things can be levelled at Daka, but he's always worked hard - but often in vain. He's never complained about his lack of playing time and he's never thrown hissy fits. But maybe that's his flaw - he has never shown much of an attitude and gets subdued too easily. Add to this that the step up from Austrian football and African internationals to PL/Championship football has proven too great, then maybe we get a picture of why he has failed. On the surface he looked like a great replacement for Vardy. Fast, instinctive, clinical. As you say, his numbers were good and rewatching videos of his Salzburg days, you can understand why we went for him. 4 1

He could be a model pro, but he could equally just be happy with the stupid contract that he knows he wouldn't get anywhere else.
suffolk fox Posted 24 March Posted 24 March Elderly lady who sits in front of me in the East stand sums him up.......A lovely lad but lets be honest he is bloody useless. 1

I can only judge what I see on the pitch - he's never shy of working hard. He still has a strong instinct (he often gets half chances from opportunistic play) but his execution is not anywhere near as good or consistent as it seemed to be in Austria. He's never seemed "in sync" with our squad with regards to movement. This, to me, speaks to a lack of tactical/footballing intelligence, which Vardy had heaps of, and not a lack of effort. 1
Popular Post Dmitry Posted 24 March Popular Post Posted 24 March Reading some of these bizarre, limp-wristed comments, no wonder the club is where it is. Daka is a terrible striker, who lacks even the basic ball-handling skills expected from someone playing at this level. Full Stop. 3 2

Strikers like Vardy have instinct, will gamble and make defence splitting runs, chase lost causes .... Daka has none of these Edited 24 March by Winstonthedog Spelling 1

Daka has none of these But that's not true though, he absolutely has instinct. In recent games he's fashioned opportunities out of nothing really (i.e. anticipating defenders missing interceptions, closing down goalkeepers etc). He's just not sharp enough to take these chances, but he absolutely has instinct. Most of his career goals are instinctive finishes.

Yeah, my opinion from a foreign country has a lot to do with why the club is where it is ridiculous and needless stab. I'll say it again, you can absolutely understand why we went and got him from RB Salzburg. He had great numbers, similar profile to Vardy and was in great form and was affordable. It didn't work out, we overpaid (like every other player since 2016) and were lumbered with him ever since. You could level the same kind of criticism at Adrien Silva (who was far more proven at a higher level), Slimani, Kramaric, Iborra, Inler etc, but they all left pretty quickly again. We held on to Daka for way too long and now we can't shift him for anything.

Daka is shite but so are these comparisons. edit: Matty scored a prem goal every 772 mins. Daka scored a prem goal every 300 mins. Vardy is 183 mins per prem goal for reference, and Akinbiyi is 387 mins per prem goal. So Daka is at least better in terms of scoring rate than one of our worst ever Prem strikers 🤣 Still crap numbers for a even a bit part striker (and Daka is bit part, I don’t recall him getting a regular run of games except for under Maresca for about 8 games in the Championship), but his scoring rate is far better than even one of our highest scoring defenders ever (who did also play up front sometimes, and took a few pens on occasion… if memory serves me correctly) Edited 24 March by FoxesWalk 2

What about the fact we haven't signed a decent striker to replace Vardy? You're very naive if you believe Daka is to blame for us being where we are. Hes a terrible footballer and should not be in our team, but seeing as our amazing recruitment team and DOF didn't get us a striker, other than a kid from Chelsea that is clearly not good enough, we don't have much choice but to play him. All of the above can be true, (except where you suggest I’m naive) but that STILL doesn’t change the fact that if we are relegated by 1 or 2 points we can say that Patson Daka missing an easy penalty and an absolute sitter is the football moment that was the difference between staying up and being relegated. Simple opportunities against an opponent that was as bad as Bristol City and offered no attacking threat. 1

sm1 Posted 25 March Posted 25 March Looking at his record, in the last 2 seasons at Salzburg he averaged over 30 goals a season, scoring 61 in total. That's elite numbers, in fact he got 11 goals in his 1st season with us, but he's never looked like getting close to those numbers. One thing I've noticed is he always seems to be hiding behind CBs as opposed to finding space. Against Watford Ricky crosses the ball which flashes across the goal. It would've been an easy tap in for someone standing closer to the goal line, but where's Daka. He's hiding behind 2 CBs near the penalty spot. Surely a striker should be finding space, not having to be told that by coaches. Even the most basic aspects of scoring goals has deserted him. 1
