Can one of you clever chaps (Ric, Jeff Schlupp or Chocolate tea pot I think it was) now give us a definitive update on how the squads are likely to shape up, now that we know who’s staying and come in, in line with all the rules please?

I wouldn't put Justin on the EL list, can't see him playing this side of Christmas personally so its a waste of a spot so Mendy would likely get that spot until January when we can change it

Rodgers says he's back next month - I'd be inclined to agree but he may as well name Hamza now as it's a 'free' spot and if there's any chance of Justin getting an opportunity for minutes in Europe then I think they'll take it.

its the same injury as Ricardo who played after 9 months but wasn't back properly until this season. Obviously everyone's recovery is different and I hope he's back next month it would be a massive boost I just hope JJ isn't being rushed back

Ricardo played in the Europa last season so I wonder if Rodgers would see those games as an opportunity to give Justin game time.

Justin is not far off I've been told.

and he got injured in his first game back and was out for a further month or so, but soft tissue injuries are pretty common after a long injury

Yeah I know, but Justin will have to play at some point.

If he's back in training next month then the club might target games in November and December for him to work his way back.

Surprised Thomas misses out to Justin but I guess he'll be playing more league games

He's not, he just doesn't need to be registered like Justin, due to being CT AND under 21.

If I've understood it right @jeffschlupp

Of course - here we go.

The UEFA Europa League squad, capped to 24 players:

GK 1. Schmeichel (AT)

GK 2. Ward (AT)

GK 3. Jakupović

CB 4. Evans (AT)

CB 5. Söyüncü

CB 6. Vestergaard

CB 7. Amartey

FB 8. Ricardo

FB 9. Castagne

FB 10. Justin (AT)

FB 11. Bertrand (AT)

MF 12. Ndidi

MF 13. Choudhury (CT)

MF 14. Soumaré

MF 15. Tielemans

MF 16. Dewsbury-Hall (CT)

MF 17. Maddison (AT)

WI 18. Pérez

WI 19. Barnes (CT)

WI 20. Albrighton (AT)

WI 21. Lookman (AT)

FW 22. Vardy (AT)

FW 23. Iheanacho (AT)

FW 24. Daka

B List:

FB 1. Thomas

Unregistered:

DF 1. Fofana

DF 2. Benkovic

MF 3. Mendy

AT = association-trained - 10

CT = club-trained - 3

In the Premier League:

We can name all 24 above, plus Fofana (who counts as U21 for the Premier League) and either Mendy or Benkovic. One, likely to be Benkovic, will miss out.

The B List:

In the Premier League, all of our U23s and U18s are eligible for naming on the B List, with the exception of the overage Josh Eppiah.

In the Europa League it is slightly more complicated - players need to have been at LCFC for 3 years as a youngster - this includes Stolarczyk, B. Nelson, Flynn, McAteer, Maswanhise, Fitzhugh and Marcal-Madivadua among others.

Jeff great breakdown & just shows what a juggle it is to manage which just gets me thinking how do clubs like Chelsea & possibly Man C cover the AT, CT & U21 requirements yet still seem to end up with a full 25man squad?

Not being lazy just looking at the Chelsea squad now, shows 30 players you can work out the players that won't get game time but most of those would fit into the AT, CT & U21 catagory meaning they couldn't / shouldn't have 25man Euro squads but always seem to.

Probably explains there willingness of the like of Man U, Chelsea, Man City  to blow big sums of money on the likes of Maguire and Chilwelll

Squad registration reopens during the January transfer window so Fofana definitely won't be registered this year and very unlikely to be in January. Unless they try to use his inclusion in the squad after Christmas to help motivate him during rehab.

Would have thought Mendy would have been favoured over Hamza in the Europa but the home grown requirement stops that.

Hamza doesn't take a spot in Europa. If he is in the squad, we have a 24-man squad  if he's not in, we have a 23-man squad. There's no choosing between Hamza and Mendy for a squad spot.

aye, the more i look at Chelsea the less i understand it.
They have 7 HG players, this window brought a 29yr old '3rd' keeper i guess then Mount, Chilwell, James who are within a matchday squad then theres CH-O who they were willing to let out, Ruben LC not in their plans & then Trevoh Chalobah no where near starting squad & who along with CHO are the only U21s in the whole 1st team squad.

None of the others on 1st glance jump out as ATs, they sold Zouma who would have qualified i think, loaned out Tammy Abraham & brought in another 2 players that don't & will start in Lukaku & Saul just baffles me how they juggle it, guess we'll find out soon as they all must have to register their squads today/tomorrow?

Another thing i notice is the amount of quality names & wages that sit on their benches & probably happy to do so knowing its a squad game & long season but according to FT all ours have fallen out with BR or don't get given a chance & are put on some pedestal when they are finally released from their contracts but that's for another thread.

Know that this has been mentioned previously but this highlights the importance of Club trained players. Hopefully Jethro can be the next off the production line, but even then will likely need a championship loan before he’s considered in the full squad. Highlights the importance of KDH coming through as well and being a valuable club trained squad player

Yep spot on - if you're on the B list your spot is essentially 'free' as in you don't have it at the expense of another player.

But even if he was over 21, as you quite rightly say he would be club-trained so would fill the otherwise empty 25th spot on the A list.

Chelsea have got Christensen, James, Mount, Lukaku, Loftus-Cheek, Chalobah all club-trained plus Chilwell and Bettinelli association-trained - that makes 8. Of course if you're CT you're also AT, so you could name 8 CT players and no AT players and still have a full squad of 25 if you wanted.

Add in Hudson-Odoi on the B list and they're absolutely fine.

Does naming Cheek & Chalobah take 2 of the 25, i know i know :@,  as that would mean there are 2 big named high earners not making the list for 2 players that probably won't play wouldn't it?

Cheers. I didn't understand this rule. I had to look it up. Uefa demand we field five club trained players. We only have four. Had we loaned or sold Hamza we'd have a 23 man Europa squad. Thomas is on the B list because of his age and time at the club.

How on earth is Lukaku academy trained. They signed him at 18, he was immediately 1st team and then loaned out to West Brom the following year and Everton the next. I suspect the rule allows for players aged 18 to sign and then after 3 years they qualify as still aged 21. Any older though when they join wouldn't qualify even after 3 years.

I know, I know. I think it's you need 3 full years or 3 seasons (either would count) so depending on when he turns 18 or 21 it can affect it a bit. The regulations are a little bit vague but I am sure he counts because I remember a fairly reputable journo tweeting around the time of him signing.

To bring a world class centre forward in who just happens to be home grown is just one hell of a bonus!

Has the closing date for the PL squad passed? Now Mendy is on his way, will we be able to add a player - eg Benkovic (as with the EL squad)?

Can’t see anything on the PL website

i expect its end this week after the Turkish window has shut

There have been no games since our window shut
