Sorry for derailing the Warsaw away thread. Any chance someone could move the posts into here to clean up? :D

All suggestions welcome on how the current system could be improved so that younger/newer fans aren’t frozen out, but the older fans who’ve put up with a lot of gash football for years aren’t screwed over!

I am on 481 here - so I’m generally okay for a ticket. The system is 70% correct but I don’t agree with the length of history they use.

To make that bridge is a huge gap that not even attending every away game this season could make up.

The biggest issue is that a STH of 8 years with zero history of aways has priority over someone with 5 or less years under their belt and has gone to every away they were able to get a ticket for. Am I right in thinking you get one point for attending each away game, and 50 for renewing your ST? And they're using these numbers since 2012/13. The balance is way off.

It pretty much works fine now. The build up of points for STH could be shorter, but in any walk of life you should reward those who have shown the most loyalty over the longest period of time. The same people disputing this are probably the ones moaning about getting shit deals on their energy/broadband etc despite being with the same provider for years.

theres been ample chance to get home and away tickets over the past few seasons. Right now as a member you can go to Brighton, millwall and palace away!!

That STH of 5 years with every away will probably get to 90% of aways this season. Christ, members will probably get to 90% of aways this season! I do understand the sentiment of what you’re saying though, and maybe the timeframe should be reduced

On a similar note, I've never understood why STH's get priority for home tickets. They already have their tickets. They should let members have higher priority than STH's

My view on the current system:

1. Yes, for most away games this season, all STH's (and possibly members) can get tickets. However, if demand goes up again, those people miss out (which is not fair on all of them).

2. The points for having held a season ticket should not be as big as they are (or at least in comparison to away points for each match).

Possible changes:

1. Change the 50 points per ST rules so that a ST is only worth 5/10 points (or something realistic). Maybe even weight them so that ST's over the past 3/5 years are worth 10 points and any 5+ years are worth 5 points (again, or similar).

2. Reduce the years ST's get points (e.g. only apply 50 points to ST's for the past 3 years - although I probably favour the point above).

3. Potential to weight away games (e.g. Southampton away on a Tuesday night is 3 points, Man Utd away on a Saturday 1 point - or similar).

I am currently on 460+ points, nearing the 470 mark. Had every ST since they started counting. So I in some way benefit from this system (even though I would probably still be fairly high up as I average around 8-10 away games a season). However, as some people have already mentioned, missing a ST or two can really impact your chances. The person who has had a ST for 8 years but never been away has 400 points. Someone who has had a ST for the last 5 years and been to every away game (or thereabouts) will have 375 odd points. In my view, the latter person should be rewarded more for away match priority.

Definitely room for improvement, it's not awful but could be better.

They do. It's only cup games where STH's (rightly) have priority. STH's can only buy extra tickets once all members have had a chance for PL home games.

Ah ok, i didn't realise that. I thought it was always the other way around

Does renewing/ purchasing a membership grant you any points at outset like the season ticket or is it purely a point for each game you attend?

I’ve always wondered whether the England style cap system would be fairer or at least the older version.

2 points for away games

1 point for home games (so ST holders get 19 upon renewal which is capped on a 3/5 year rolling period)

Home cup games also to count which would increase demand for those games as well?

I think this is the best suggestion so far from @GlennyFox55

So under this system, someone who has had a ST for 8+ years and say done 3 home cup games and two away games per year on average has 130 points.

Someone who has a membership for 10 years and done half the home games, then upgraded to an ST 2 years ago and also done the 3 home cup games in that time, and also been to five aways each year. That person would be on 123.

Compare that to the current system where Person A has 416 points, and Person B has 125.

This new system isn't exactly forcing people out but it makes it realistic for newer fans who HAVE been following us to the likes of Palace, Brighton, Southampton, to overtake those who were straight down the ticket office when we won the championship and make the trip to Villa Park once a year.

Not sure there’s really an issue. As others have said there’s not many away games that sell out before everyone gets a chance at it. Better access/more priority for away games is one of the rewards for investing in a season ticket.

The system works now.

If people generally want to go games then they will go.

There's 3 games currently on general sale now. Build your points. Don't sit there and moan you can never get a ticket if you can't make the effort for the less glamorous ties.

It's as simple as that.

Oh and for the record, pre covid(season before) we had something like 18 out of 21 games go to general sale.

I see it the other way around. Totally approve that long serving fans have priority.....but the benefits are wayyyy to favourable.

A ST can sit in their arse sometimes for weeks on end with a hot ovaltine mmming and aaaring whether to go to the game and then, hey presto!, cba and leaves members,.say, 3 days to sort out travel and tickets for a game they've been waiting to buy for.

Give priority to STs. Make it a day or morning....and if you don't snaffle it up, more fool you.

In doing so, membership becomes much more attractive knowing that, in most cases, you'll get access to tickets just, say, 5 days after publishing.

And converting  casual fans, twitter followers and the like into paod up, card carrying members is absolutely critical to the continued growth of the club.

So far this season STH with high points get priority for about 1 week, then it comes on sale for the rest of STH for 1 day, and then members the next day

Even then tickets are becoming available to members about 3 weeks before the matches

Not for the charity shield. High priority seemed to have a comparitive age to fanny about....members were left with an absurd scramble a couple of days before

For STH they were only on sale a couple of days before members, it even went on general sale on Monday 2nd August, EVERYONE was scrambling around

I don't really understand the whole 50 points per season for having a season ticket really.

An example; my dad who doesn't go to away games has 311 points (I've used it to get my son tickets in the past, which is where the 11 comes from) My son aged 7 got his first season ticket this year which has actually made it more difficult to get him tickets as he doesn't have the members ballot anymore.

It's fine for me on 540 points but for my son who is nearly 8 I've had to make my daughter a member to apply for tickets for him, or I buy on my dad's if it gets that far, or i try and get one on here.

My son goes to pretty much every away game aside from midweek far away ones. Games like Brentford, he doesn't stand a chance because he doesn't have many points, yet, he's been to probably 40 away games over 2 and a half seasons. It's okay for the holier than thou brigade with their "go to the less glamorous games then you'll build your priority up" But it isn't really practical taking a 7 Yr old away to Millwall on a Weds night 😂

To be honest he's already earnt the chance to be at games like Brentford but he gets taken out of the queue by people who don't go to as many aways but can get a ticket simply by virtue of being older.

All this said, if anybody hears of a spare Brentford ticket, let me know, thanks in advance 👍😂

I know from a mate who is a Villa fan that they’re priority system for aways is worked out on the amount you have been to the previous season. So P1 is 18+ away games the previous season, P2 is 15+ and so on.

I actually quite like this outline, he seems to think it works well too. For the record I don’t have an issue with ours really.

Using 1 game out of 18 as example there. Loads didn’t have chance for Brentford - only 1700 tickets and a new ground.Obviously it’s not easy for young kids to go to midweek away games - but some people will and it’s only fair they get first dibs over others.

I suppose Brentford is not the best example. However, I do feel my point stands. Why are season ticket holders given 50 away priority points each year? Away priority points should be just that. Maybe they should be added to the home priority points incase a cup final comes around.  That is probably the only time a home priority or 'length of time holding a season ticket' would need to be considered.

For a new season ticket holder to get to the current top bracket I think I worked out previously would take about 18 seasons doing every away game.

Yeah you can pick up tickets for most run of the mill away games easily enough, but to get to the very front of the queue for EL away games for example will be very very difficult.
