But he had the benefit of a full pre-season (during which he impressed).

Obviously anything is possible but I'd be amazed if he gets game time for the first team here.

Oh I agree, I highly doubt it happens. Ruud's not exactly been gung ho in throwing academy players in, he's only putting them on the bench when he's exhausted senior player availability and his decision to not include any vs QPR was extremely disappointing.

The U21's have still got 10 games left this season, plenty of game time, start a fresh next season after trying to get a bit stronger if possible.

And if he starts tearing things up he might get some first team minutes.

Much rather he was back here playing any sort of football than stuck up in Scotland with a manager who has made some very odd subs throughout the season already.

Big window for him now, he will be needed next year so getting a good loan is imperative.

Mid table league 1 or top league 2 clubs to guarantee minutes for me! I don’t think a relegation scrap in league 1 is the most nurturing experience.

league 2 didn’t harm Nelson

I would of sent to someone like Stevenage for the rest of the season if he hadn't already played for the under 21s this season.

I don’t think that’s in question. What’s pissing annoying is the organisation whereby he’s played in a poxy EFL Trophy game and therefore he can’t go out on loan again.

This is also piss poor. He's not played for the official first team, it's a glorified academy match for the u21's who aren't associated with a proper league. BS rule

As bad as it is that he can't play for another club, they had no idea it wouldn't work out well at Dundee. They could sign him on loan again lol

But hard to blame the club on this one?

I disagree. The club didn't have 'no idea' that the Dundee loan wouldn't work out. First loans often don't workout, it's not unusual.

The club needs to get professional in how it manages the careers of young players like Braybrooke, Alves and Nelson. Not just for the benefit of those players but also, the next crop of promising youngsters are watching what happens for those three. The club should be able to point to good management and the success and opportunities that brings when offering youngsters like Monga their first pro contract, that would reduce the chances of them being seduced away by more promising offers.

The two club rule is well known. Any young player who might be going on loan shouldn't lose one of those 'lives' for a single, unimportant game. Someone should have responsibility and accountability for ensuring young players' opportunities are maximised. There isn't joined up thinking going on. Also, it shouldn't be left till the very end of the window for young players to be allowed out on loan. By then many of the best loan places are filled, players risk missing out on the best opportunities and can be left scratching around for what's left (Braybrooke?) or missing out entirely (Alves?). I believe that's why we have such a poor record with loans. There should be a clear career plan for each young player - it's what many other clubs do - so whoever's deciding on the squad for the Papa Johns knows the plan is for Braybrooke to go on loan and therefore he's not up for selection.

Braybrooke was considered ready under Rodgers until he got injured.  Has the injury ruined him or has he just been overlooked because more established players have been excelling in our record breaking run?

While a failed loan doesn’t always mean a player doesn’t make it, few are going to go from not playing in the SPL to a Premier League team, regardless of whether that Prem team is dog shit.

He’s looked way off it all season. Ever since he came back he’s been a shadow of the player he was prior to leaving on loan. I’ve watched a fair bit of the academy this season, and I think it’s clear he has taken a blow to his confidence. It’s a difficult situation for him, my suggestion would be he needs to move on to a lower league team and build his career from there. Too many areas of his game fall just short of being ready for the championship.

Im also staggered Golding is being spoken about, I haven’t seen anything at all to suggest he is anywhere near ready for the championship.

From what you have seen, who do you think is capable and ready to step up next season as genuine match day squad players

Creative midfielders are always going to be difficult to blood as they can take longer to impact on the game needing to know the strengths and weaknesses of every player in a live match situation as opposed to the training environment. They're often the first to be dropped in a losing team as well as there's a big tendency to tighten things up.

Ruud has gone down this route and it has failed miserably.

Golding is 18 has plenty of time on his side.

As for Braybrooke at 21, a similar age to KDH when he went to Blackpool (L1) on loan. He needs to go loan at L1 or L2 and get a season of mens football under his belt, then reassess.

He's been set back a year and probably went on loan 6 months too early in his recovery.

He has 12 months left on his contract, I'd still be looking to extend at least another year.

Not the same at all and I’m not making any inference here but Kane had pretty mediocre loans with Millwall, Norwich and us before immediately breaking into the Spurs side.

Sometimes players just need a chance. If an academy player out in Soumare’s performances this season - we’d all say he’d never make it

I agree,  and im sure I’ve used Kane as an example in this thread, but Kane was playing at least.

That said,  I’d rather curl one out in the centre circle than watch Soumare again.

A positive of the impending Russel appointment is that Braybrooke would slot quite nicely into his system. Either as a starter (less likely) or an understudy to Winks and Skipp.
