Got tickets yesterday but might train it for the first time.

Do people usually just stay around Birmingham New Street for pubs? (edit: with our without colours also?).

What's it like getting out at the end? I take it Witton is packed with home and away fans (similar to London aways)?

Still undecided whether to train it or drive this season.

Never trained it but did train it to Wolves and going from Wolverhampton to New Street was easy enough. Plus, I believe Villa has two stations you can use (Witton and Aston) so I guess that disperses the crowd a bit. I recall getting away from the ground being a nightmare by car as the roads often get congested around there. You also get the advantage of drinking around New Street with the train as the away pub is pretty awful.

Yeah car is horrific, always end up getting stuck, which is why I was gonna train this season. But then I thought, at the end, still got thousands of people onto trains to Birmingham New Street.

I live in the West Mids and all my Villa mates (and their forums) are in despair of getting to and from games because of the train driver shortages.  They’ve been left queuing for trains after games for over an hour as each gets cancelled.  It’s a pretty normal feature of the West Mids train network at the moment.  Driving and parking relatively close by is perfectly possible and if it’s a 10/15 minute walk away you should get away pretty easily.  It’s the side streets immediately round the ground which are a nightmare.

Cheers. That's decided then lol Driving.

Best decision. Trains on Sunday are always a reduced service anyway and with driver shortages over the last few months we have been stood at Solihull getting trains in to Birmingham and trains back when 2 out 3 services are cancelled and then a bun fight trying to get hundreds on to the one that does eventually arrive

Yeah, we're driving too as the train did seem like a lot of effort.

Even with driving, it can be an awful lot of effort getting away after the game due to the congestion. I've booked a parking space as we'll no doubt aim to get there 11-12ish, Uber in to the centre to sample the Christmas Market, and then Uber to the stadium.

After the game, we'll walk back (Around 30 mins) whilst some of the traffic clears.

Even with the Uber's to and from the parking, Market and Stadium, its a fraction of the cost / effort of train.

The two times I drove (FA Cup in 2015 and League Cup in 2020) I parked around Long Acre, an industrial estate. About a 20 min walk to ground or so. First time I went into the heavy traffic around J6 of the M6, took ages. The second time I headed away from there and got on at J5, seemed to remember that going pretty well.

Just made me think that both times I drove we lost 2-1. 3rd time lucky on Sunday hopefully. If it finishes 2-1 then I am getting the train in future as we won 4-1 when I did that!
