Almost every cliché mentioned on this thread now.

Surprised to have not seen "he's hit that too well".

...you obviously have not been reading the topic thoroughly!!!

That one came up some time ago.

I have since acknowledged it, so maybe you haven't been reading the topic thoroughly ;)

'I know it's a cliche, but we need to take each game as it comes'

'The lads'

And Kasper Schmeichel kicks it out for a throw in.... that's the fourth time today.

"So unusual for Schmeichel to do that"  :D

Area would do me.

I don't think that "area" lends itself to the idea of an emerging pattern. Once the rhythm of the game is established, then players will use those pathways which offer the optimum opportunity to create goal chances. They're certainly not fixed.

I agree that channel is a clumsy word -maybe openings is better.

Not so much a clicé but seems to be a trend that the football world has unwittingly picked up upon:

It’s the tendency of managers/players, when answering any interview or press conference, to begin every answer with a sharp intake of breath and say “Listen….” or “Look…”

Tony Blair answered every fookin question with the word "look" at the start. Patronising.

"They love their football here".  I should hope so, otherwise you've got a stadium filled with thousands of amnesia sufferers, scared and confused about how they got there.

Outstanding …. The amount of times several players in one game have been outstanding really annoys me… by definition only 1 can be outstanding surely

It comes across to me as if they think they’re about to impart some heretofore unseen wisdom, that we, the mere mortals, could never have understood or spotted until they pointed it out.

Unfortunately what normally follow is the normal, media-trained non-comittal answer that we’ve all heard 1,000 times before.

Pretty sure this started as an Australian thing. Listen to their cricketers and you'll hear it over and over. Annoying.

'Honours even' and, on here in particular, "let's be honest" - as if we all really believe what the poster is stating, despite the fact that x number of us have been arguing to the contrary for months.

Oh come on, it was arguably the greatest, most dramatic in-game moment in PL history.

Martin Tyler's commentary on that is amazing.

I know you'll see it from a professional angle as well as a fan. But I just hate it. I will concede that it may be the overuse of it more than the commentary itself.  But I still hate it!
