The way people talk about man to man marking you'd think no goals were ever scores from corners before zonal became popular.

Got to have a good balance. Makes sense to have a good header at the front post to clear a dangerous area. Probably also makes sense to have a player or two following the more dangerous oppo players.

Whatever were doing at the moment isn't working and needs change. It's a real problem.

Leave 2 pacey players on half way, that immediately take 3 players out of the box and have your cbs mark their biggest aerial threats. Its really easy

Or just carry on having our cbs stand like statues while the people who are awful in the air end up challenging the other teams best headers.

It doesn’t take 3 players out of the box. It takes 1, 2 at most.

In defence that would give us 8 players. We’d have to have 2; out of the 18 yard box. One of them protecting the short corner and another protecting edge of the box.

So that’s 6 defending. One on the front post; in case it falls short.

So that’s 5 defending the corner. What we got? Wilf, Evans, Soyuncu, Amartey and Soumare ?

That’s probably why there’s an insistence on zonal.

I pulled the clips together so you don’t have to. This is football arrogance at its core, to let this happen every week and not see that there’s a problem. Not even a case of our fans being deluded, it’s just football basics and bad coaching.

The lack of men on the post, the gravitation to the ball, yet zero ability to win headers, Kasper rooted to his line… it’s all here:

Its actually sickening how identical all those goals are.

Brendan is absolutely deluded if he thinks this standard of defending is acceptable in any grade of Football.

Watching that video has given me a nostalgic appreciation for the defensive contributions of Leo Ulloa. He'd have cleared most of those at the near post no problems.

Was very very useful in this respect

Because Rodgers has deemed it not necessary.

No, Schmeichel is in charge in the 6 yard area and he can easily instruct someone to guard the back stick.

Some of you will be asking us to play with wing halves soon!

Ask Napoli too. Just watched them get done by a front post header. No one on either post. This is a team what’s conceded four all season before tonight.

Nearly got an offside decision in their favour

Let's get the Birch to train the lads - he knew what to do

my analysis of yesterdays defensive errors

the first goal Castagne is in front of Rudiger so cant back off, it's Wilf who should be attacking the space, he has full view of the flight of the ball and can see Rudiger in front of him, he just jumps in the air to head and imaginable ball instead of challanging rudiger.

the third Pulisic peels off on the blind side of Evans, Amartey has full sight of him and doesn't react, just satnds there until it's too late.

the second Soyuncu doesn't come across to close the space, he stays out too wide, it's bizare.

It seems a mixture of laziness and confusion, whatever they're being taught, they just aren't getting it which is why i think we need to play 4 at the back and scrap the zonal marking

Wilf was blocked by Jorginho for the first goal which means he can’t squeeze rudiger against Castange  - he should be stronger

Criticism of zonal marking as a concept is like Brexit. Looking for simple solutions to a complex problem.

Looks like most of the other coaches in the Premier League have worked out what to do, apart from BR

No no no!

It was all Amartey’s fault (or Vestergaards)

😉

But they haven’t. Man U and Everton for example are as bad for set piece goals
