So England bowlers bowled okay but Australia still easily piled the runs on...........Batting track, no excuses here.

Don't care that it's late in the day, they have been under the conditions for a while.

Need the openers to do the job they are there to do and bat the remaining overs.

Need to look at the leadership of the side, Silverwood and Root.

You only have to look at the transformation of the 1 day side when you have the right leader, who creates a culture for successes.

Too often Root lets game drift.

I've often thought the same, but who replaces him?

Burns gone already. Ffs.

Captaincy is a big question in terms of alternatives, coach wise they looked at some bigger names at the time who were probably better options

Burns is typical of the problem England has with selection. Scores loads of runs in county cricket, everyone clamours for him to be involved and then he turns out to be not good enough for test cricket. See Sibley for this too.

We seem to have a weird ability to create batsmen with unusual techniques that just make them walking wickets against top quality bowlers.

I could cry watching burns.

He's not cut out for the Ashes.

I suppose the only thing left to do is admire the Aussie bowling because we are getting hammered.

They are lightyears in front of us with bat and ball.

That was a tragic shot from an opener at this stage of the innings

Can anyone confirm what Hameed has done since being dropped after he was initially called up to justify selection again?

Not be Dom Sibley?

Seriously, he's done alright at Notts and is the best of a bad bunch. I've got a lot of time for him but this top order is a toxic place to be for anyone trying to get their international career back on track - let alone anyone we might fancy throwing in at the deep end for the first time.

Has he? He averaged under 40 and that includes having a not out century. I quite like Hameed for what it's worth just don't think he's justified a recall yet. On a separate point Root is the only one in our squad with a test average over 40, how poor is that.
