Highly likely not related to us, but sure we were linked recently.

Yeah, all of this is been highly publicised.

The club rejected a bif for him last week (they reportedly want £15m) and then didn't play him at the weekend. Picking an AMC over him and he refused to come off the bench in the 60th minute when they were chasing the game.

The squad is still way too big. The only two positions that don’t require us selling players to bring more in are a striker and box to box midfielder / defensive midfielder (dependent on where Marti see’s Winks’ role).

For context, our squad currently consists of:

3x goalkeepers

3x right back (Including Hamza)

3x left back (Including Aluko)

5x centre backs (Including Souttar)

4x centre mid / defensive mid (Including Page)

2x attacking mid (Including Alves)

2x right wingers (Including BDCR)

2x left wingers

2x strikers

That’s a total of 27 players and without including any position versatility such as Aluko and Woyo offering cover to both fullback spots, Ayew being able to play in the attacking mid etc. As well as not including fringe academy players such as Silko Thomas.

We still need to sell another fullback before we even have an actual balanced squad. Then you need to sell further to bring in replacements.

The only positions that require a signing prior to further sale is a striker, attacking midfielder (dependent on how Marti views Alves) and a centre mid.

Issue with this is, you rarely win anything with kids… look at our set piece struggles against Charlton, kids are too raw and inexperienced sometimes../ think packing the team out with them is a mistake

Not sure I'd include Bousor as our 3rd keeper

At most a couple of loans and maybe buy a striker but not much more than that.

I know it's only the Moroccan league (which he was voted the best foreign player last season) he's young, in the Senegal national team and would add something to our midfield.

I'm starting this rumour, as there's nothing credible going on.

Think we could pin a gentle reminder to the top that this is the "Twitter Transfer Rumours" thread.... I mean... I know there isn't any but still.... keep getting excited for no reason lol

Well I think it’s fair to say Aluko, Nelson, Monga, Bausor, Page and Alves are firmly included in the first team numbers this season especially as depth options.

Who’s our 3rd choice then? Because we definitely aren’t signing another senior pro for the role.

You want to send a 16 year old out on loan?

Barnes was 19 with his first loan to MK, KDH 20/21 at Blackpool, Chilwelll was 18 at Huddersfield.

Never mind the fact Page hasn't even signed a professional contract yet so he CANT go out on loan.

I think the experience of being in an around a championship squad with some talented players and (don't @ me) facilities, where friends / family / schooling are all local, while making match squads and getting apparences at this level is far far far far ****ing miles more valuable than going out on loan which he legally cannot do anyway.

You ****

shouldnt be anywhere near the first team IMO

If you think he should be then you obviously not played the game to a decent standard

Marti probably doing it to prove a point to the board how desperate we are.

Playing Page in that 10 role could destroy his confidence.

If you actually watched the Charlton game, he was visibly not strong enough, too slow in his decision making and got bullied.

Which to be fair is not his fault.

Throwing him against them who were kicking everything that moved was naive by Marti.

But who am i to say

Spot on. Blindly signing players for the sale of it to add to an already massive squad is what got us here in the first place.

A striker and a centre mid is the max that I can see us bringing in.

That's genuinely bollocks mate. He's played him over Alves, liked what he's seen of him in training and is running with it. Yeah, we're light in that area and BEK would start, perhaps Alves, but this is excellent news for us.

You could see it in his face when Fatawu scored, the confidence is there. This will be massive for him. He's played in the England u17s as well, like Dowman who came on for Arsenal, and  Ngumoha who played and scored for Liverpool so I'm sorry but you're talking absolute shite.

Disagree, Page would have learned a lot from his start. Did what I expected of a 17 year old lad and didn’t disgrace himself.

Page didn't disgrace himself in Saturday - unlike Skipp.

If he was a new signing lots would be saying he needs game time to bed himself in. He got caught out a few times but i think he did himself proud and was growing into the game towards the end.

I didn't watch the game, but everyone says that the oppo midfield completely overran ours (hardly surprising given the likes of Soumare etc in there for us) and were very tough/dirty.

It's a nightmare situation for one as young as Page to make his debut, for him to be able to cope and to influence the game.  I think the fact that he didn't fall apart is all you could ask for, and he apparently achieved that.

I see no reason why, if he's given more game time, he can't get more used to the players around him and to start to show his qualities. Certainly his enthusiasm is a breath of fresh air in our currently woeful midfield.

to quote page in the same breath as dowman and ngumoha is as you quote talking absolute shite

with regards to alves, he unfortunately is not up to it else he be given more game time.

A lot of the happy clappers seem to be pinning all our future hopes on these youngsters which is a) unfair and b) way too optimistic

2 years ago we were talking about the leicester iniesta, (sammy braybrooke) and he far from first XI currently.

All because there home grown doesnt make them saviours

Why's that then?  You making a judgment on them at senior level based on 25 minutes and 1 minutes worth of appearances?

Spot on, hate the clamour for players, it’s football not supermarket sweep! The point about what got us here is very much on point too!

The point is Page is very highly regarded internally and externally (by the fact he was in the most recent England u17 teams) he's played above his level in the u18s and u21s last season, scored twice in pre season, trained with the senior squad, leapfrogged Alves who started many games for Cardiff last season, has clearly done enough to be in Martì's plans not just because he happens to be youth, but because Martì himself rates him. Compound that with the fact you cannot loan him out as he's not even signed a pro deal yet, what do you suggest we as a club, and Martì as a manager wanting to get results do with a clear talent..

"Louis, I’ve been impressed since day one with his understanding and his smartness in the way he plays. Positionally, he’s very good. He’s a midfielder with capacity at the base, to drop and help the build-up, but also to play in between the lines. He’s got a fantastic left foot and at set-plays his capacity to shoot is very strong. Then I just have a feeling he will grow and grow. He’s now training with players with really high quality. What I see in training, I’m very encouraged."

This is the very experienced coach and manager who sees his players, and hundreds of others previously, choosing to pick him in the squad 4 out of 4 so far.
