Ric Flair Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 5 minutes ago, Finnegan said: Where is this from? It does not match fbref at all. That's because fbref will only have the European games he played last season which was about 4.
Finnegan Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 Just now, Ric Flair said: That's because fbref will only have the European games he played last season which was about 4. No no. Fbref only shows top five leagues and continental competitions in its visuals, which is what was loaded above. Fbref has massively comprehensive stats on every player in every league. Their data comes from opta iirc. William Boving, in the Austrian Bundesliga in 24/25 got 5 assists in 24.1 lots of 90 minutes which is about 0.21 p90 (0.2075 if we're being picky) and is nowhere near rank 1 even just for forwards.

Sunbury Fox Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 Our track record of signing strikers from the Austrian league is exemplary.... 2

Yeah they're useless for all players that don't play in a top 5 league. But like I said, the actual stats on record for Boving don't match the graphic @kingfox posted which seems to swing hugely the other way?
Pita Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 Looking like panic buys by Rudkin as usual. We are in a total mess

Haarland started life in the Austrian Bundesliga. Daka should not make us completely write off any player in Austria. Many go to the German Bundesliga and are successful.

We are in a total mess If we are actually looking at a 22 year old from the Austrian bundesliga (and it could very well be a nonsense rumour) then I wouldn't describe that as a panic buy. Buying <24yos for cheap from smaller European leagues, developing and upcycling them for profit is exactly how we should be operating. A panic buy is lumping on for Bamford on deadline day because he has experience at this level. 11

I'd put him as more of a Ayoze Perez type player if I were to liken him to a previous player but with different strengths and weaknesses. You're not selling him 9

Because those FBRef stats only consist of Champions League data, not Austrian Bundesliga data which I’ve compared him with. Plus FBRef lists him as an attacking midfielder/winger, which will make certain metrics even more skewed. As you mentioned his assist statistics to Ric, this is what he compared with other Austrian Bundesliga strikers last season. 1

But fbref actually holds extensive data, from Opta, on most leagues. You can find Boving's entire career stats in great detail on fbref. https://fbref.com/en/players/731302dc/William-Boving Edited 28 August 2025 by Finnegan

I'm just saying it DOES have stats for the Austrian Bundesliga and the Danish league, including all of his goals and assists. 1

You know full well for certain leagues that FBRef only do standard statistics. Plus these data websites have a habit of operating differently, Wyscout for example analyse their assist data differently to FBRef and others for example. DataMB gives you a better full scale picture, FBRef doesn’t do that for the Austrian Bundesliga for example. But of course everybody has their preferences and who they trust more, but I honestly wouldn’t bother using FBRef, I’d only use it for the leagues they give full scale reports on, like the European top five leagues and The Championship 👍🏻
teblin Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 Loos like he also can play AM, more of a Bilal replacement than a straight up striker? 1
lcfcbluearmy Posted 28 August 2025 Posted 28 August 2025 This is about 4th hand by the time it got to me so don't know how reliable it is but been told a number of our players have told the club they won't play for us again and it's pretty much the ones you would expect 1
