We definitely have a good age group and looking at the players we are producing I'm very glad we made the decision to sign at Leicester.

Make sure to point out the success of all the kids that left because they wanted better things (Tavares, Pascanu, Taft, bassey)  😉

Whatever happened to Tavares

I can imagine Tavares will be kicking himself seeing these young lads get minutes in the first team.

Young players need to be patient and their time will come if they're good enough and have the right attitude.

At the same time, Tavares's situation let the Academy players know that forcing the issue of "accelerating their development" can lead to not getting a game in Porto 2, at the fraction of the wages. I can't think of one of our Academy wunderkinds that left early that have made a success of it...Dodoo, that Romanian kid, etc.

Tavares is struggling to break it not the Porto B side let alone playing in the first team where the majority of those games would be against opponents that are Championship/L1 standard.

Like said in the quotes above, he'll be kicking himself as this time would have been perfect for him to perhaps establish himself, and if nothing else, it would have got his name out there to build his reputation.

Seems to me the lad got some horrid advice off people whose motivation didn't seem to have his interests at heart.

I think this, along with his over inflated ego , is the crux of the problem

I Find it funny how this lads got 5 pages of comments when he only played a few minutes  and didn’t really do that much . Yet  Brunt had a cracking game played the full game in two different positions and only had two pages of comments .

Obviously we don't know him personally and it's all conjecture, but him being Nani's cousin probably had a bearing on that if talk about an ego problem is true.

I can't remember a single player from that late 2000s era of the Prem I liked less. In an era when it was less common and way more conspicuous, he perfected the art of diving on the line to win free kicks / penalties, and of playing the hard man one minute before feigning injury to get players sent off the next. And he was in the same side as Rooney Red-era Ronaldo, so that's saying something.

He just had that punchable aura which Portugese Man Utd. players seem to have. Based entirely on personal bias against Nani, I consider Tavares a bullet dodged. lol

One is 5 years younger than the other and as we've already suspected is being touted by the club to have a huge future. Rodgers quotes in the Mercury today.

That's not to detract from Brunt, he was excellent and a real surprise. I suspect he's played himself in to a few more opportunities here.

Yep get the age thing and  the lads obviously got talent . I just find it amusing that there is so much  praise on one lad that didn’t  do a huge amount  and only had a few minutes.   Then a lack of praise for a lad that pre -match was getting slated by many but had a very good  game .

...Brunt wasn't the only youngster on show, he has to share the spotlight on this occasion!!!

nb.

Sorry subject went to Tavares and switched back Alves, got the timing wrong.

I know he wasn’t but out of all the youngsters that played he had the better game of the bunch, yet Alves as you say it  has got  more  of the spotlight . Just an observation . Not trying to take anything away from Alves

‘Alves’ vs ‘Brunt’

Like comparing ‘Romario’ with ‘Crouch’

I think it is because we have all seen the tricks and runs from this lad.

I think out of the 2, Alves has the higher ceiling and so everyone is excited that he has taken his first steps into pro football.

I do agree though that Brunt played very well and looked very accomplished on what was his first start for Leicester.

Bassey at Rangers is doing alright; think there are a few others who have slipped through

Kid is going to be special

I want to agree but your have Rodgers shouting at him not to take too many touches in his first game. Rodgers’ conservatism may run off negatively on Alves and set him back …

There was a guy at my school with this problem. His whole life he was told he was going to be a professional and while he was at Rushden and diamonds (lg 2 at the time) he had offers from about 10 clubs. I remember him bragging about not wanting to go to leicester or forest because they werent big enough. He turned down southampton at 14 because he didnt want to travel and just expected that big boy to come get him. (ridiculous as southamptons youth set up was amazing)

He never ended up with a move and spent his youth in the pub rather than the training ground.  The guy had all the tools but none of the personality. I swear if 90% of lads had his ability they would have made it to the top of the game. Such a waste.

....welcome to the real world!!!

The tendency for some professional players is to take a poor attitude against a young 16 year old running rings around them. Retaliation is a factor and any perceived disrespect could lead to wild kicks at him. It would be hard to contain yourself in that moment, as this is what he would have done in any other game.

He could see that Rodgers was in fact coaching him in that instance, the right thing to do.

I suspect because its alot more exciting for a 16 year old to be given a debut as appose to somebody being given a first senior game at the age of 21
