Like in the UK, one could argue that asylum seekers crossing the channel are electoral gold dust for conservatives. So what incentive do they really have in stopping crossings? If they don’t soon stop the crossings it will be one of the failures that will cost them the election. 28k already this year alone, all in hotels at a cost of 5 million a day to taxpayers. It’s unsustainable.

My source was the Telegraph last week, and also Sunak who referenced the 5 million a day several times during his hustings.
