Law & order and immigration are key issues to Swedish people it would seem.

Another totally-not-a-racist populist playing to "legitimate concerns" he helped create.

Unfortunate that it's happening again, doubly so that too many people keep falling for it, especially when the bed for unity has never been more stark.

Unfortunately unity is but a pipe dream.

Judging by present circumstances, I can't really offer an argument to the contrary.

For a supposedly smart species we sure as hell don't show it often enough.

The government: "Unions asking for payrises are wrong, it will only fuel inflation. Sit there and take all these cost increases, you can eat on 90/72/5/1p per day honest, I hear plebs love eating sawdust"

Also the government:

Like in the UK, one could argue that asylum seekers crossing the channel are electoral gold dust for conservatives. So what incentive do they really have in stopping crossings?

If one were conspiracy minded, they might say "none".

An early episode of Spooks covered this exact matter twenty years ago.

Staggering that this would even enter the chancellor's mind. What a twerp.

Really. If they don’t soon stop the crossings it will be one of the failures that will cost them the election. 28k already this year alone, all in hotels at a cost of 5 million a day to taxpayers. It’s unsustainable.

Really? What is your reliable source of information for this?

Genuinely interested.

Too numerous to list. A quick search is all that is required.

I haven't looked and don't read the DM. My source was the Telegraph last week, and also Sunak who referenced the 5 million a day several times during his hustings. You are not dispelling the fact that 28k have crossed the channel this year, Surely?

You sound surprised. I doubt many of those wealthy bankers vote anything other than Conservative. And I guess many contribute generously to the party.
