The Running Thread (formerly How fast can you run a 5k?)

Recommended Posts

Had a break from running but I’m back around 24:30 5k, however, last few weeks I’ve started getting an acid reflux like/throat burning sensation lower in my chest (sternum area) after 15 or so mins running.

Anyone had this before, any suggestions?

Im not eating much before I run, for park run for example, I typically have a slice of toast or two at least 1.5 hours before, or a banana half an hour before. A glass of water as soon as I wake up, that’s it.

Going to run with the big boys at Poole Parkrun this weekend. The weekend just gone, winning time was 15.37 and 77 people finished sub 20 mins lol

Frustratingly not quite in PB shape otherwise it would have been a full send on a dead flat course. Should be fun none the less.

Got within 10 seconds of my PB, clung onto the pacer for the first half but then faded. Pretty stacked field for a parkrun, two people finishing above 90% age graded score.

I need a proper long run, comfortable, soft, bouncy shoe. Struggling with foot/leg fatigue at the 17K mark where I used to be comfortably running 20+.

My Nobablast 5s died early

Saucony Azuras ive fallen out with - too firm for long runs, not quick enough for tempo

Still love my Addi Evo SLs and can go long in them but mainly use for daily and tempo

Nike Vaporfly 4 as my raceday shoe.

I dont fancy the new Novablast 6s after the 5s died.

Thinking maybe a Nike Vomero Plus or similar. Any suggestions?

I got the Vomero Plus last week. Only done 6 miles in them so far so a hit early to tell. Can update  bit later this week when I’ve hopefully broke them in a bit more.

Initially they seem like a comfortable cruiser not really getting the big bounce like I’ve seen in the reviews. As I say they may need 20-30 miles to get going.

Had been looking at the Rad UFO but not at the price they are atm.

What distance do people find they start needing to take water with them? Assuming it's not a mega hot day

I never took water with me even when I was training for half marathons (a long time ago), never found I needed it as long as I'd been drinking plenty of fluid for a couple of days beforehand.

More than that distance I might well need some but those days are gone

For me I generally only have a stop for a water break over 20km generally. Excluding the heat that is though, I've been stopping around 10k in recently and downing a lucozade in seconds 😂

I can't run with a water bottle in hand. If I'm doing a long run over a half I might take a running bag with a drink but never otherwise
