they look a level below all but 1/2 teams

I think that's a harsh but fair assessment which is why our results against those teams are the ones that count, and why I was disappointed with the Reading result.

They say every dog has its day but getting a result against any of the other teams is unlikely. Scrapping a draw against one that's out of form, or has an off day, is about all we can hope for.

Ain't all over yet though, not by any means. Disappointing as that result was, we have other fixtures to go yet that are definitely winnable.

Is someone messing with the women's Instagram feed? I keep seeing old posts reappearing as new, it's like it's playing catch-up from a few weeks back. Not happening on anyone else I follow.

.. you have seen us play haven’t you!!!

If you saw the game at the weekend we are now in a situation that we are going to have to beat Reading in order to get on par. This was a team at our level and they were as weak as we were, but what happened at the end was unreal.

We are the only team that look like school girls when they are playing, the stats from the back end of last season to now, does not make good reading.

Sad to see Bedford go, but even with the summer reinforcements we seem to be getting worse.

Sadly but for some truly dreadful goalkeeping we would have draw with Everton and beat Reading.

she seemed to be a good coach but keeper and strikers are badly lacking, Kirk is very experienced manager in the women's game, I wonder if this was always his end game when he came in as DOF

...if the first action taken by the new manager is dropping Levell, then we will know we have a manager on our hands!!!

Werent really reinforcements a few youth players?

Didnt we also bring on a 16 year old in the last game?

I do feel for the manager as I feel she hasnt been given the tools to do the job and I also feel watching that last game we didnt look out of it, and were in control, but no quality up front so we having to try and hold on to 1-0 wins or 0-0 draws.  Very different to how we were before she got the job.

The nature of recent results must be utterly soul destroying though, reminding me of the micky adams epl season.

Bedford did a pre match press conference for the Arsenal game this afternoon and said she felt supported, that's really bad from the club to trot her out there and then bin her off not 8 hours later and announce a restructure that looks very planned.

Think the change was needed. Haven't seen much improvement from last season. She kept banging on about how good the stats were compared to last season but we just don't look like a team capable of winning games. She seemed more interested in just staying in games and trying nick something. In fairness, it is a team in need of better investment too.

Nah she was sacked.

Even if we rally and stay up again the cycle will just continue, a nice training ground and being full time isn't enough to truly compete in the WSL in 2022, we need to actually invest.

Lydia Bedford has been sacked as Leicester City Women manager after the club’s winless start to the season.

Just hours after conducting her pre-match press conference ahead of the fixture with Arsenal this weekend, Bedford has been removed as part of a “reorganisation”, the club have announced, with Willie Kirk to take over. Kirk was appointed as director of women’s football at City in the summer.

A 2-1 loss to fellow strugglers Reading last weekend left City as the only team without a point in the Women’s Super League after six games. City had been leading through Natasha Flint’s goal, but conceded twice in injury time.

Bedford now makes way, having failed to reach a year in charge. She took over from Jonathan Morgan last December after the club made a poor start to their maiden Super League campaign, and she guided them to safety, claiming 13 points to finish two ahead of relegated Birmingham.

Handed a two-year contract in the summer, Bedford was tasked with keeping City in the division again, but they are now bottom after a string of narrow defeats. She departs alongside assistant manager Nicola Williams, with Kirk taking over from Saturday ahead of the meeting with Arsenal on Sunday.

Leicester City chief executive Susan Whelan said: “We’re extremely grateful to Lydia for everything she has done during her time with Leicester City, guiding our players through a difficult first season in the WSL. Her skill as a coach and dedication to improving players were big factors in the retention of our WSL status and will continue to serve her well in a successful career at the top of the women’s game.

“After a difficult start to the season, we now look to move forward with the team led by Willie Kirk, whose experience and knowledge will be of great value for the challenges ahead.”

Speaking earlier on Thursday, Bedford felt she had the backing of the club. She said: “At the moment I’d say I feel very supported by the club in terms of being able to execute my role. Last season I got brought in during December and the club had zero points but by the end of the season we managed to stay up.

“I think for us as a club, we know what needs to change over the next few months to help us. The January transfer window is one we’re working very hard in the background to make sure we can secure some additions to our squad we know will help us in the second-half of the season.

“For me, personally, the only pressure is the pressure you put on yourself. As a manager, you want to go out and feel like every week you put the players in the best position. Almost in every game, bar one this season, I’ve walked off the pitch at the end thinking to myself there’s not a lot more I could have done to change the result.

“As long as I feel like that and I feel like the players are giving 120 percent on the pitch, I won’t ever be happy to lose games, but I can be content I’m doing the job to the best of my ability.”

New manager Kirk, who will be supported by first-team coach Steve Kirby and technical coach Emile Heskey, has previously managed Bristol City and Everton in the Women’s Super League. He also had a brief spell as Manchester United’s assistant manager.

I think something like that is a possibility, either from him and/or the club, getting your ducks in a row as it were.

I feared Bedford would go. I think her impact was, initially at any rate, positive and I was hoping our results would pick up but the nature of the Reading result sealed it imho.

...totally right about investing!!!

We had the summer window and brought in player after player and they are about as good as the players we were letting go!!!

I have no idea of how much we invest yearly in the women's team, but we will have to pay over the odds to bring much better players in, as they would be looking to join the more prestigious clubs.

The last 16 games we have lost 14, drew 1 and won 1, those figures explains why she had to go and why this should not be a suck it and see policy.

Considering the 'shortage' of top class players I doubt we're very attractive to most. Even the men's team struggle to recruit top players so we go with potential knowing even the best of those will not stay. i suspect she concentrated on potential as we seem to have a fair few budding internationals so will likely be a long haul. Mid table is our future.

We have to draw a line somewhere… lol

I agree, with a goalkeeper that let's in 3 goals direct from a corner can't be good for team spirit especially when she is constantly being picked to play. Also with having our three main strikers injured and the others not able to hit a barn door, something needed to change for the clubs sake.

So relegation form is acceptable for the men's team but not the women's. Cool 👍

The form of the women's team is even worse than the men's.

Goals from Ava Baker and Ferne Powell saw our WSL Academy Team defeat Reading 2-1 at Belvoir Drive on Wednesday.
