With the stadium expansion set to happen. I was curious if we keep playing the way we have been playing will a stadium expansion be worth it even if we are in the championship? Like teams such as Hull have not used their upper tier seating for years could that happen to us?

Man Rodgers has really done a number on our fan base. Enthusiasm and optimism is all but dead. The man sucks the life out of clubs and is absolutely unapologetic about it.

This is happening. Very doubtful any U turn after the cost and lengthly application process that has happened. It's called vision. Are you never going to buy a new house with a bigger mortgage incase you lose your job? Same principle.

Scrapping this is a ridiculously short sighted thought. One of the main reasons we’re in this mess is a lack of revenue. At some points you have to outlay some money, and maybe take a step backward to move forward.
Having a bigger stadium will lead to more money coming in, better sponsorship deals, being more attractive to players as well as other commercial opportunities for the club.

Not when you're in the Championship.

Especially if you'll be charging Premier League prices in the midst of a cost of living crisis.

This whole idea needs knocking on the head for a few years - there are plenty of other issues at the club that need sorting first.

True but you wouldn't go and make a huge financial commitment if you've just been put on a restructuring process and your job is at risk.

If we were mid table and not in horrendous form there would be no question but at the minute we are very much looking likely to go down.

What a great idea, wait until we're back in PL and we have thousands who can't get a ticket and so we can't increase our turnover. Then take two seasons to build the new stadium/hotel etc.

Good thing you're not running the club.

If we win the next 3 on the spin we could be mid table, are you changing your mind then? That is unlikely I know (fellow pessimistic fox) but it could happen. You have to drawn a line in the sand in decisions in life and push on, otherwise you standstill in your work and personal life - in a constant state of indecision. That is my philosophy anyway, which respectfully might be different to yours.

It’s not like if we cancel this we have £x million to spend. We need a bigger ground.

Sales are slow atm because of the club’s stupid policy of pushing memberships rather than any economic issues.

Okay so you want to spunk millions of pounds on building infrastructure that isn't going to get used when we are in the Championship? Do you remember the attendances the last time we were doing bad? We struggled to get 20k. Even now some home games are short 2-3k which is unheard of in recent years.

I'd rather the money went on getting the playing squad into a position to get us back into the League.

We’re not in the Championship though…

And if this has been costed, and the funds accounted for it won’t make a difference.

Worst case scenario we go down, we have done in the past, we will come back and be in a better position.
Even in the Championship, we’d sell out 40,000 for games like Forest, Derby, Cov and come close against the likes of Sunderland, Birmingham etc. some huge clubs down there.

It just wouldn’t make any sense not to do this.

If we win every game remaining this season we we will be in the Champions League next season.

Neither thing will be happening.

At the moment it is more likely we are in the Championship next season than either of the above.

I would imagine pressing on with this whilst getting relegated would see one of the biggest financial explosions in football so far.

I don't get how people can't see this. The finances of it are probably covered. We're not relegated yet. It makes sense to expand.

Explain? Do you know how it's being funded? How do you know it's not been stress tested incase of relegation? Top may have had to give a personal guarentee to our lenders on a proportion of the funding for the new stand, if it is financed through debt there will be covenants in place which would of had to be stress tested too on different scenarios etc etc

Its a bold statement to make with little or no back up of information.

They've dropped that now it seems - Palace is on general sale.

I agree for the most part but we couldn't find a bean to spend on players until very late in the window after selling a high value asset and we currently can't afford to sack a manager who's dragging us to oblivion. It seems that there is mismanagement of the club at every level at the minute and if we want a sustainable club in the future sometimes hard decisions have to be made.

Personally, I'd get this season out of the way with first and make a decision but if we press ahead and go down we will be in a whole world of trouble.

That is fair

It's a genuine feeling that I have about us at the moment. I don't think the club thinks it possible that we get relegated and as such our internal planning will not be particularly based on that scenario.

This business has lost it's true leader, as has it's parent company (along with it's huge revenues) and we already see the club acting as though it is not financially stable whilst in this league.

Getting relegated would be utterly disastrous for revenue, there is no way a stadium expansion can be done in a sustainable manner with us not dining at the top table of football.
