3 main things i think we learned after the victory over Leeds.

1. Defending finally back up to scratch - looking solid especially on set pieces

2. The corner hasn't quite been turned yet by the club - away from home is a huge hurdle

3. The empty seats are a bad sign - what are the reasons?

let me know yours 😉

This is the full article if you'd like to read a more in depth analysis from me.

(NOTE: the site has the odd pop up but if its read on an iphone or macbook it tends to be fairly easy to close the one pop up that i got. As its a good sized article it needs to go over a few pages - turn on your ad blocker settings as well as some feedback has been given that lots can pop up some time, think that might be on some devices that are a bit more exposed, let us know any feedback though. Just keen for my writing to find an audience, not worried about clicks - contrary to the abuse i had on the last one i posted 😉  ✌️ )

I haven't had a chance to watch the game back, but as for the empty seats: An 8:15pm kickoff played its part. I wasn't there (gave my tickets to a neighbour, so my family's seats weren't empty), but was enjoying Leeds fan Jon Richardson keeping track of the score at DeMontfort Hall. He thought the game was lost at halftime, bless him: Little did he know how quickly we can throw away a two goal lead!

that may have had an effect. also seems like a lot of people have gone on their holly bobs recently. Was Jon Richardson good?

Yeah, I enjoy him. Got the tickets ages ago, but COVID happened and it got moved.

We went and saw Olga Koch at the Firebug on Wednesday. Also good.

But the lousy football and some health issues have deterred me from night games this season (although I plunked for the League Cup. Glutton for punishment, I guess.)

It's a win over an extremely bad Leeds side off the back of failing to beat an almost equally bad Palace team, at home.

I dont think we have learnt anything.

Pick up 3 points against Wolves, Everton & West Ham then I'll start to consider what we have learnt.

Sometimes the words of pundits, ex-managers, et al make me wonder whether I know sod all about football (which I'd have to accept is the case) or they're making sh*t up.

I was listening to comment on how well Rodgers had analysed and negated Leeds effective high press. I just thought Leeds were rubbish. Can both be true?

It has been a steady decline downwards for several months now so I think nothing can be learnt after one game. Start this thread again after 5 more wins!

The commenter in the game called out that Leeds were only pressing in one and twos, an there was no organisation to the press which made it easy to play through, you are correct Leeds were rubbish.

Midweek 8:15 kick-off (which should not be a thing!) during half-term week = lots of empty seats.

Could be that. I also would have thought it would be a good opportunity to take youngsters that didn't need to be up the next day 😐

One thing we’ve learned. Leeds are ****ing shit.

Let’s not get carried away, there were a couple of moments when a certain midfielder just allowed Aaronson to run past him unchallenged…. If his energy matched his quality we could have been in trouble.

There will be a complete lack of consistency, because the manager has clearly set the tone as we’re shit, and he has set us up in a way to reflect this.

The game was largely poor, neither side took a hold of it, we just highlighted that we do have quality, but we’re being stifled.

We learnt that a bit of luck (e.g. the own goal) can go a long way.

And that you make your own luck by putting in the effort (e.g. Praet)

That last 4 games have proven there is little quality in the league other then the top 6 or 7 teams.

When you consider we could and should have more points from the Chelsea, Brentford, Southampton and Bournemouth games.

Our biggest issue has been our rancid defending, which has improved with the introduction of Faes and the Set Pieces coach.

We have out scored Man U, Chelsea and are currently the 8th highest scores in the league.

If we can continue to be more solid we will climb the table and be midtable.

People are still leaving with 5 minutes to go when we are 2-0 up. Absolutely painful to see.

Got to beat the traffic Bert! Why sit in the stadium when you can just sit in your car in traffic a little earlier than everyone else leaving………

8.15pm midweek ko, half term holidays, on tv and no general sale. I was surprised there wasn't more empty seats.

Club missed a trick with general sale. Lots of non-members would have taken their kids cos of half term.

Mission is to concede one less against Man City than Forest do against Liverpool. 😂

Which is why I've said our defending has been rancid, to move up the table we need to continue to improve our defending and organisation.

Amazingly we have keep more clean sheets then Villa, Palace, Leeds, Everton, Fulham, West Ham, Southampton, Forest.

Take out the 2 horror shows at Spurs and Brighton we went into kamikaze mode chasing the game which lead to 11 goals conceded, we would be middle of the pack defensively

I'd rather be a high score team that need to improve it defending then a low scoring team like Wolves, it much easier to get better defensively then to improve your goal scoring.

The no. of CS doesnt matter, it’s the no. of goals conceded that matters, coz at the end of the day it is the Goal difference that matters
