Had a pretty unerving experience earlier.

Me and the wife were in the living room, our 4 year old was in the hall. She likes sitting at the foot of the stairs when on her Ipad.

She came running in pretty freaked out saying someone was looking at her. We asked her if it was someone outside (there's a window at the foot of the stairs) but she was adamant they were in the hall.

She was pretty worked up about it, I asked her what they looked like and she said it was just black. I was a bit spooked but I convinced her it was her own shadow and sat where she was sitting just to confirm to myself it WAS actually a shadow but even at 4 she spotted that my shadow was in a different place to where she saw the person.

The way she describes it, like she was on the stairs and someone was peering round from the corner of the hall/stairs and looking at her so she looked at them. It took quite a while to get her to settle so I believe that she believes she saw something and I'm Trying to rationalise it in my own head so I can sleep tonight.

She's probably forgot about it already... I hope I forget about it. Lol.

A similar thing happened to me when I was about...5 maybe 6. It was like a 3 dimensional shadow in human form. I can still picture it clearly and have pondered upon my whole life....just saying.

Kids can say some scary stuff. I remember when my eldest was about 4, we were driving somewhere, we drove past a particularly old house and he suddenly got excited pointed at it and shouted “I used to live there”.

I remember when we were kids me and my brother used to think there was a “naughty” ghost that loved upstairs in our house. I remember once running up the stairs one night and as I got near the top seeing this figure run along the landing.

However the most scary thing that happened was one night I was woken up by my mum and dad going bed, I could here them in the bathroom, I used to sleep with my head under the covers so tried to put my head above them but something was holding them down and I couldn’t get my head up, also I could feel like someone’s figure poking in the bottom of my foot, I was trying to scream for my mum and dad but was so scared nothing came out.

My brother in law once used to live in an apartment in an old converted pub on Loughborough road, he said he woke one night to find and old man stood at the side of the bed looking at him.

I decide to try and investigate this, to see if anyone else had reported any ghost activity in the area, I didn’t find anything but did come across an article on sleep paralysis which most likely explains both of the above stories.

Aye, I've always read stories about kids saying creepy stuff. Never really thought about how I'd react to one of mine doing it, it was pretty unnerving.

I have to say though, I was quite proud of the logic she showed when she realised that her shadow should have been in the same place that my shadow was. Not just a spooky wee b!itch but a clever one too.

3D shadow in human form sounds about spot on to what she was trying to describe.

I don't want to spook you......but it turned out like this.,...many years later Mum and Told me that the previous owner of the house (old bloke - lived alone)  was found dead in the same spot.  Probably best if you don't mention this story to your young 'un though 👍

The thing is though (and I have thought about this) my house is 2 years old. We are the only people to have ever lived here and it's built on the site of the old school that my Mrs went too, with no stories of anyone dying there so if it WAS a spirit then the spooky wee b!Tch has brought it into the house like a common cold.

I'm not really a believer in ghosts and all that but when my wife was pregnant with our first about 18 years ago, I remember waking up in the night and there was a person standing at the foot of our bed on the wife's side.

This person was dressed in all white and looked like a cross between an old nurse and my MIL.

I must have stared at this person for a good 10-15 seconds then they disappeared.

My theory is that the wife had suffered four miscarriages previously and this was some sort of angel watching over her.

Freaked me out and still does to this day.

Exactly. It doesn't make any sense!

...Unless your wife had an old relative who used to be a nurse...

If it looked like your MIL, it makes sense your MIL might have looked like one of her old relatives.

We had a pretty similar incident around the same age with our little one who was claiming monsters were coming in to their bedroom at night. Did a bit of research and it's apparently quite common at that age. Couple of suggestions I found were to embrace the mystical being and act like it's friendly. Then tell your little one you're telling the being it needs to go outside and walk your child to the front door to escort the being outside. Once out of the door, close it and lock it and tell your little one that it can't come back in.

That worked for a few days with us until our little thought they'd be a smarty pants and then claimed that the monster had made a key and could let itself back inside.

Had a little think then asked my little one what is the one thing monsters are afraid of and was told Unicorns and Rainbows. I then went and bought loads of related stuff and placed it all around the room thereby creating a safe space which seemed to do the job so worth a try.

Could be.

The person was so vivid but I couldn't make out exactly who it was. The funny thing is that I didn't feel scared at all - if anything I felt safe. Very odd.

The wife reckons I dreamt it all but I'm convinced I was awake and conscious.

Hopefully it's just a one off and it doesn't go that far but those are good ideas. Cheers.

One of my earliest memories is extremely vivid ('3D' to go back to a previous post) hallucinations of monsters walking and talking on my bed. Was probably a fever or something. I think it might be common.

Spookiest thing that's happened to be is finding a smashed bulb still in the lamp at my girlfriend's flat, and neither of us having any idea of how or when it happened. No shattered glass about either.

This is a good point, I only remember being scared of the fact that there was a 3d shadow person in the room the 'atmosphere' wasn't upsetting...not like when I went on 'that house viewing'. ...but that's another story.

The incident I posted above being trapped under the bed sheets and having someone poking my foot was similar, I was absolutely awake and while scared at the time it never concerned me in the morning or ever since, when I read the article about sleep paralysis years later it made perfect sense.

Occasionally have 'out of body' instances where I'm sitting on the sofa and feel like I'm having a deja vu moment in terms of ''I've had this feeling before'.

Yes, I get this sometimes. No real consensus on why it happens to people, other than the brain creating an illusion of familiarity

I’ve never seen, or experience anything ghost related. My scientific mind can’t really contemplate how they’d exist as a disappearing being in relation to atoms and semi stable states of matter etc

Unless time has folded in on itself and they’re stuck within a time / worm loop however why choose a certain time etc. Also, why are they always white?

I always have skeptical about supernatural, spiritualism and these kinds of things.   As a teenager I even visited a graveyard on midnight of Halloween with a friend to see if we can find a ghost.

I do not think I would be applying for Ghost busters any time soon although I have two young boys now so that may change soon!

Sounds like sleep paralysis/night terrors to me. I’ve never had one but my mum does all the time and it’s similar to this, although she gets absolutely terrified.
