Still tend to tip the taxi driver - a bit of a bribe really, hoping they'll turn up when you call them next.

Used to tip the barber - but around here (NW London) they've started using misleading signs outside their salon "from £9" when the cheapest you'll get will be £12 or £13. Once I feel I've been conned, then I'm not going to tip.

Don't eat out that much (not counting Spoons) but they generally put the service charge on the bill already.

Edit: I recently bought a crate of Stella for the workers in a garage that fixed my motor and spent many more hours finding the fault than they charged me.

Good plan to keep on their good side. The garage I've used this year couldn't help ratcheting up the repair into 4 figures, and I still ended up having to scrap the beast a couple of months later. My fault for buying a 2nd hand Vauxhall.

Waiting staff and barbers. I'll usually just round up a cabbie to the nearest bit of change I have assuming they haven't taken me completely off grid.

Also very occasionally ask bar staff if they want one for themselves if buying a round, but that's only if I've had a fair few, have had a good chat with them at some point and am feeling in an especially jolly mood anyway.

Speaking from experience, this really can make someone's day.

Takeaway delivery drivers if they are good, get my food faster as for bad delivery drivers, they tend to lose that company my business.

The worst company for bad deliveries was a takeaway on Welford Road, three times they fouled up and the third time was actually funny they were so bad, the driver rang me five times and even though he had a sat nav and was on the correct road eventually gave up even though I was by that time outside my house on my phone waving at him, inspite of good food I stopped using them.

When I was younger and went to clubs, the bar staff was a must. Tip them well the first few times and cut down your wait to be served massively.

I tip minimum wage restaurant teens who serve me food with a smile.

This just sounds the starting narration of a classy 40+ min video on any porn site lol

"...and what can I say, this one particular teen always served me with a smile"

I used to like tipping the black men in toilets with catchy lines, but now they all use card machines with a minimum £5 charge, so no more of that for me.

Generally tip if I can afford it and feel like I received good service. If you're in a club/busy bar. Tip the first person that serves you and they'll more often than not find their way back to you :D

I do this when abroad ok an all inclusive holiday, the first few days tip a few dollars or euros or whatever and after that you know your service will be top notch.

Always something I try and do around this time of year, given the kind of once-a-year helmets they have to spend their time dealing with. My brother's worked in a bar so know all too well how draining it can be around Christmas.

Good on you, I do enjoy bar work but it can be draining when you are dealing with certain people. Everybody is different, but I always remember the people who were kind and made your day, not the ignorant and purposely rude customers. It always speaks volumes about them, I am a firm believer in that how somebody treats a hospitality worker says a lot about who they are as a person.

Restaurants only really. And even then I do it through gritted teeth sometimes lol

Rarely carry cash these days so little bit more difficult for a casual tip here and there. I do feel bad sometimes when I get a takeaway delivered as I never have anything to give them, and generally feel like I should.

Totally agree. My missus was a waitress for a long time and I used to work in a McDonald's, so know how it can be with some customers!
